Half the fun is redneck engineering
Yet another installment to the 50-some year tradition of insanely cheap Asian crapola. Look up chintzy and this hibachi might be imaged in the dictionary and that's curiously why I keep buying them when they rust out and stain the concrete ... Tradition!First, the package is so far from adequate that it makes you laugh out loud when you get it. And, that's just always been the case. How can 'cardboard' this bad be made? But, pay no attention to the bursted box. In fact, after 50 years ... I can't recall ever seeing an unburst box. I remember searching through a pile of these at an un-air-conditioned Zayre's on a July day in Miami never to find a single extant box ... just scoop up a collection of the stuff laying on the floor and that'll be good enuff.Somewhere in the 'problem solution' (as if the maker has ever noticed a 'problem') the manufacturer has chosen to add excess and peculiar parts that make you wonder about ... but persevere. Occasionally a couple parts bags somehow stick to something in the burst box. If you get all the cast iron, you have what you need. There’s like an infinite number of ways to go from there. You might end up with a bunch of parts at the end, but again ... pay no attention.I've gone through a half dozen and the experience is always the same. The wholly crap packaging, the extraordinarily bad castings and 'where on the planet can you find cheaper hardware' are just part of the miraculous zen that emerges in your own hybrid, unique hibachi adaptations. This one I created has no side handles ... or more specifically I got side handles that fit someone else's hibachi who probably got my handles. Disappointed at first that I might need to whittle and cobble handles, I thought … "Would I ever be stupid enuff to carry this flaming red-hot bad casting and fire somewhere?" And, Voila! Problem solved by mere thinking! Forget the handles. You to can solve the various problems the same way.I’ve never ceased to be amazed at just how horrible these castings really are. The secret sauce must be in these hilarious castings because honestly, these things are fantastic cookers using just a couple briquettes. It’s a mystery to me how it works so well. I simply must visit the factory someday.

it looks vaguely like the proper thing but it is not
Cheap, nasty, poorly constructed- and now what do I do? It doesn't even fit together properly- the holes are drilled in the wrong places, all the linking metal work (ie things holding things to things) are just thin aluminium: in other words- it is from China and will fall apart after one or two uses, if you can use it at all. If you look at it from a distance, with eyes squinted, it looks vaguely like the proper thing but it is not. If you get a proper Japanese Hibachi, it is beautifully made, functional and long-lasting. Good luck- the Chinese have taken over the market and produced these s***ty little disposable objects that you have to try and put together before you decide that this really isn't what you expected, but if you are going to send it back you have to disassemble it, repack it and arrange to have it sent back. Why can't I just throw it away (all it is worth) and demand my money back? Crap.

This product was not as good as I expected
This product was not as good as I expected. The grates did not fit into the holder well enough to stay and required a prop to hold up the handle end.It did the job after that.

Nice little hibachi
This hibachi is perfect for two. It's heavy also, just like our old one from decades ago. Certainly does the job, and it's able to even fit inside the "jumbo" grill!! Went together very fast. Highly recommend since this little cast iron guy is hard to find.

Just what I was looking for!
Not crazy for the price $29.99, but hey, it's just what I was looking for! We grew up with the "hibachi" branded little hibachi, which this is exactly but without the name on it. The parts that hold it together are a little cheap, but the cast iron grills and firebox (the bottom part :-)) are nice! The wooden feet allow you to use on a raised surface with little fear of too much heat transference, but don't use above anything flammable (that you care deeply for) as the vents could let a little glowing coal or ember escape. I haven't timed how long the heat lasts, but it really lasts enough for more grilling even after four steaks. Just use caution to put your ashes in a fireproof container if you are emptying the same day!!Cooks steaks quickly and gets a nice sear on them. What can I say, I grew up using these and they use less fuel (charcoal) and are nice for smaller groups and portability! Don't clean with soap and leave the seasoning on it for extra long lasting grill...also don't let it rust out...but if it does rust a little, a wipe with some oil or lard before you use it again and that will re-season it. I do have the Lodge sportsman hibachi as well as two of these, and I love using these for their light weight and how close the fuel is to the grill...and for a quick grill, they do the same job. The weight also makes for a safer transport! WAY better than any of the cheap painted steel miniature grills!!! You can even use it in cold weather...just takes a little longer for the coals to get going. Got this one to replace the original one we took to the lakehouse...that one has been used for over 20 years...sure the vents have rusted off but it works super and is built almost identically to this one.

Two Stars
Not real happy and not deep enough for charcoal -- it's intended purpose.

Took a chance on this despite horrible reviews, figuring I might get a good one
Took a chance on this despite horrible reviews, figuring I might get a good one. Believe the bad reviews -- it's inferior quality. The bottom grates (for the charcoal) are thin and came broken. The slots won't hold the grill grates in place because they are tiny and aren't machined with any precision.
