Just got this book today and it's an EXCELLENT resource for learning STEP-BY-STEP how to draw realistic graphite animal portraits. The instructions are BOTH generous and easy to follow. You get to DOWNLOAD reference materials from the author. A GREAT buy for someone who SERIOUSLY wants to learn realistic drawing techniques for graphite pencils. Also the lessons in this book are EXCELLENT! This book is divided into sections like: Ears, feet, nose, textures, etc. then the full tutorial on an animal portrait... Highly recommended!

I have bought a few books recently showing you how to draw animals and this is easily the best. I agree with other reviewers about it not being for complete beginners but I prefer this to other books that show you how to draw shapes like ovals and circles to make up an animals body. This book doesn’t do that but takes you straight to the actual drawing of all parts of animals giving you a good selection to choose from. I will be working through this book from start to finish including practising eats, noses etc, it’s all invaluable practise. The other thing I like about this book which seems to be different to others is that you start with pale outlines and bodies adding in darker shading and detail as you go. Other books start with dark sections first which I found more difficult. I will definitely look for others by this author and would give it ten stars if I could.

Another great informative book from Lucy Swinburne. I have always loved to draw in graphite and the projects in this book will keep me busy. It has been a great help to improve my artwork. I also own Taming Wildlife and Clothed Figures two more fabulous books by Lucy.
