Clean it and you'll see how much dust it collects
This thing catches just that "extra" bit of stuff. I sometimes use hepa filters which makes this thing moot but when I don't, it still catches stuff. Not a lot but just a bit of extra. It also helps remind me to not put the hose into that hole which...has happened. It's cool, it's my second one too.

Modded: Definitely not a muffler but works as a HIGH-FLOW diffuser to increase suction.
I know it's marketed as a muffler diffuser and it does at least one of those well. Hint, it's the latter. To be honest, there's no perceptible different in sound.I've been upgrading my old shop-vac brand vacuum for woodworking and as part of a system it's great. By itself, it may or may not do what you want it to do.The OEM diffuser has a plastic plate which covers the majority of the exhaust. This one is an open tube with a sponge filter on the end. The one downside to this is that it has the potential to spew more dust than the original design as the sponge filter upon pressurization has small gaps. This is especially problematic if you don't use a bag or a cartridge filter. The main reason I got this was to increase airflow. Less restriction = more suction. Don't expect a life-changing amount, but it did increase it a little. I'll take what I can get. Back to the dust issue and working as a system. Fine particles are not good for your lungs. Pairing this with a "HEPA" grade filter and "HEPA" bag I notice no dust coming out the exhaust. Even with the slight decrease in airflow with the filter and bag, the exhaust port still seems to be the limiting factor and this helps.--- MODIFICATIONS ---Although it attached as intended to with the clip, it's a loose fit in the exhaust port. This goes back to gaps where dust can escape. If you cut off the clip, it makes a snug friction fit into the shop-vac brand lock-on hose end rings. This allows you to screw the diffuser on and create a complete seal. Although it will fit without sanding, I sanded the tube down just a tiny bit to make it a little easier.

Cheaper then brand name
Basically the same as the factory just less expensive. It also comes with a replacement diffuser screen. I use it with a bag filter in my shop vac so I don’t expect it to get super dirty. It does help quiet the vacuum a little. It’s obviously going to be loud, but this definitely helps. I also noticed there isn’t a jet blast out the exhaust anymore which is nice for when it’s facing areas you haven’t gotten to yet.Definitely recommend if you are looking at a muffler for your vacuum, and don’t want to spend the extra $ for the same thing with a brand name.

Great if you "tune" it by using a pencil
It just works. If you use it as it is, sound will be greatly diminished as well as suction, though. I use a pencil to just detach the foam across the muffler and I can most of my suction back with a 70% noise reduction!

Work great!
They reduce noise and dust!!!! Much nicer with this on. Will never use a shop vac with out one of these.

the filter media completely deteriorated
I have this on my baby shop vac. I really don’t use it that much and the shop vac is a little older and looks new. my point is that the foam shouldn’t have fallen apart. it’s been stored out of the UV light as well. disappointing!

Perfect Fit
Just what I needed to replace on my old Craftsman shop vac/blower. Would buy again if needed.

It does the trick, reduces the noise of the big shop vac by half, adds an extra filter as well.
