Close to 45 degrees, a comfortable elevation for my intended use.

Q: how long should it take to expand to usable size?

Here is a copy of what "WolfSmack" had written on the Healthex website. My experience was similar to what the writer said: It took about 2 hours to fully expand. I would say this cover will launder well with cold water and a hand-wash setting. Here's something that is rare for a product like this: the cover is easily removable via a small, well-sewn zipper that encompasses two sides and one corner, rather than just one side, which allows for extremely easy removal and re-application of the cover on the foam.
