Shrinky Dinks Insects Activity Set Kids Art and Craft Activity

We finally broke these out a weekend ago and they were a big hit. My nephew, 6, and niece, 16, both enjoyed coloring and baking the shrinky dinks. Of course our favorite part was watching them shrink in the oven. We used the bracelet and turned some of our shrinky dinks with added loops in the tops into charms. For me this project brought back fond childhood memories and it was nice to make some new ones.I found this set is especially nice for boys as it includes motorcycles, rockets, robots, and dinosaurs. But my niece enjoyed this set too. She colored the fish, dragon flies, moths and other sea creatures.If you have kids that like to color and marvel at things that shrink, you should definitely check these out. If you are working only with small children, they will need an adult's assistance when working with the oven. There is no way I would have let my 6 year old nephew put these in or take these out of the oven on his own.

Shrinky Dinks are always a fun toy for kids. And adults too. My five-year-old grandson loved them He was visiting me in Florida and we both had a great time watching them shrink in the oven. We also took some of them when we visited a friend of mine who was babysitting three of her grandchildren. Obviously the younger children did not understand the concept of using different colored pencils, but they wanted to be a part of it and I was able to color over the messy ones they did. I just made sure I used darker colors. I used my toaster oven to shrink them and we found if we heated the pan first they shrunk quicker. Even without that they do shrink fast and cool down quickly.

I adored shrinky dinks when I was a kid, so I got some to enjoy with my own children and my niece and nephew. We had a fun day of making insects and they were so excited to show off their creations in a little gallery at grandma and papa's house. They all have their creations tucked away in their memory boxes and drawer.While this activity is for kids 5 years old and up, I think younger kids who can color can likely manage coloring in their plastic pieces. You don't need to be perfection or serious artistic skill to color the craft. Since you need to bake pieces after they are colored, kids need an adult nearby to supervise and assist with the stove. Great activity for the kids!

The product itself is great but it had been damaged when the package carrier stuffed it in my mailbox rather than delivering it to my door!

I bought in anticipation of having seven granchildren (ages 4-14) over at the same time. I wanted to do these as a kid, but never did. I wasn't really sure what to expect or if the kids would like them. Ha! They loved them. I figured the bug ones would be popular so I bought two sets. We went through both of them, the Peace and Love Jewelry set as well as a bunch of plain sheets. The pre-cut sets are great. It was a fast and easy way to introduce all of the kids to the Shrinky Dinks. Then after they had done a lot of these, we showed them how things could be traced or drawn free-hand which the bigger kids loved and helped them get creative. I had also purchased a Klutz book which had lots of pictures for them to trace.I also liked that this kit and the jewelry kit included accessories to make something out of the shrunk pieces. We made charm bracelets, earrings, necklaces, bugs with big cleaner legs and keychains. I promised the kids I would get more so we could do it again! As an activity for so many kids it turned out better than I had hoped. I already have more kits and plain sheets ordered.The pieces from this kit definitely shrunk. I was hoping they wouldn't just end up a little smaller and they didn't! I can't say much about the colored pencils that came with this kit as we used them along with others we already had. But, the ones in this kit are short which were easier for the smaller kids to use as opposed to the full size ones.As we started to accumulate baked pieces, I gave each kid a small manila envelope for his/her pieces.

My 5-year-old son LOVES this. It is a very cute set. He likes doing art projects and had so much fun making these. I thought it would be a once-and-done kind of a thing, but he has kept his full "bug collection" now in tact and plays with the bugs. I'm now purchasing another Alex Shrinky Dinks set (Deluxe). I remember shrinky dinks as a kid and he seems to like them even more than I did. Some people complain about the lack-of-creativity with these sets that don't make you personally design and cut out your creation, but to those people, I say... buy the shrinky dink blanks and have at it. :)

Amazon sent me two of these but reimbursed me for the second one and didn't make me send it back - so I have a plethora of Shrinky Dinks. But that's OK. My 2-year-old son loves to have friends over to color them with him, and he enjoys watching them shrink in the toaster oven. A few notes. Definitely use colored pencils on them and not crayons, as the color from the pencils is definitely vibrant enough and will do the trick (on the rough side). Pay attention to the photos, as that'll tell you which Shrinky Dinks will use pipe cleaners and which ones will use the little stands that come in the box. Also, don't make the mistake of taking them out of the toaster oven too soon. Wait for them to flatten on their own, even if it feels like they've been in there too long.

My 5 year old grandson loved this & managed to do the whole set in 1 day because he was having so much fun! If your child likes bugs then definitely get this.

These were just like when I was a kid. My kids loved the insect designs and the colours came out beautifully (use pencil crayons on the rough side). We used regular Crayola pencil crayons and even the white worked well. This is an amazing set!

Work exactly as you'd expect, my son loves these and plays with them once they're done. We've really enjoyed these.
