Heidi (Fully illustrated in Colour)

I loved reading Heidi to my daughter, now I'll be reading it too and with my granddaughters. Heidi is beautifully written, packed with morals and Christian values. The only things I didn't care for are the illustrations. Children love seeing pictures. It kind of feels like a reward after having read a section in the book. The black and white pictures are beautiful, not so much with the colored ones. Some show Heidi with black hair, others with blonde. The artist doesn't seem to be particularly talented, either. I hope these aren't the originals, I sure don't remember them like this. Illustrations aside, I have always loved this book.

I love the Heidi story. Purchased this book to read aloud with 6-yr old granddaughter. It seems to be a very good translation (to English,) but for some reason I expected it to be a more simplified “read-with-me” version and have many more pictures - similar to to the cover picture. The verbiage and sentence structure is difficult for my 6-yr old to understand and the “full color” pictures have the look of original illustrations - rather dark, dreary, and sparse. I would recommend this version for an older child - probably 5th or 6th grade reading level.

I loved this book when a child & hadn’t read it in years; ordered from Amazon & wasn’t disappointed! It’s a lovely edition!

It was good hearing there were many illustrations, since the story took place in the beautiful Alps .. unfamiliar to many readers, however, the pictures were indistinguishable.. they were too dark & even the few in color were also too dark. Very disheartening since beautiful illustrations would have added so much more to the classic story of Heidi- the well known children’s book.
