I’m a keen Apple user. As a designer, though, I needed a PC to power my industrial printer. After researching basic PC’s for a while, I was surprised to learn that Surface’s can be switched to full PC mode. I took the punt on the off chance that my specialise software (Versaworks) would run on it. It does. Not only that but I have been thrilled with the Windows 11 OS it ships with. Sure it won’t convert me back to Mac. It’s still Windows being Windows. But this is the best PC I have ever used at this price range so the fact it doubles as a tablet impressed me massively. I purchased this with the Microsoft Surface Keyboard to complete the mini PC experience. I did purchase on Prime Day so got it a bit cheaper however, having used it now, I would have paid full price as it is excellent.

So disappointing. I had both the first and second editions of the go and had been for-warned this model wasn’t great. Persevered, but ultimately returned as it’s just not good enough and for the price offers very poor value. As always, the form factor of the device is great and it’s lovely to use. The display and camera are streets ahead of the other windows tablets of this size. But that’s about the end of the good stuff. It’s woefully underpowered and stutters when you do pretty much anything. I used both windows 10 and 11, turning off animation and transparency effects, etc. but it’s just really, really bad at handling more than the very simplest of tasks. I work inside the browser most of the time and using edge alongside the slack desktop client meant regular standstills and frequent restarts, crashes and hangs. All the while, the tablet chews through the battery super fast. An hour of web browsing and doing just basic work = 35% power consumed. The tablet heats up almost instantly and the fan starts running. Surely both contribute to excessive power consumption. Lovely design and great to carry around.. but in reality just unusable.
