90-95% clear
I have been experimenting with the Corkcicle Ice maker daily for a few weeks. I picked this product based on my limited understanding of how to make clear ice. Obviously, there are impurities and dissolved gasses in all water. During the freezing process these impurities get pushed to the area of the ice that freezes last. Typically what you find is that the ice is clear towards the top and progressively gets cloudier as you look towards the bottom and center of the ice cube or sphere. Different strategies have been proposed to mitigate the impurities such as filtering or boiling water. But the results are only marginally better than doing nothing at all. The Corkcicle's insulated design allows for the water to freeze from the top down instead of outside in. As a result, the downward freezing pushes the impurities toward the bottom and out through a small hole at the base of the mold - leaving behind clear ice. You see this phenomenon in nature when a still pond freezes over. Lot's of impurities in pond water yet the ice is generally crystal clear at the top even though it may be several inches thick on top of the unfrozen water beneath. The trick is to make sure that the bottom opening of the mold doesn't freeze over until after the majority of the impurities have escaped. This model works pretty well - perfectly 100% clear ice? no but very pleasing non-the less at about 90-95% clear with only a bit of cloudiness at the bottom of the sphere. The biggest draw back is that this particular system will only make one clear sphere at a time and because it is so effectively insulated to allow for impurities to escape it does take upwards of 24 hours for my freezer to completely freeze the water in the mold.

Best ice cubes I have made
After trying several different ice trays, this is the best one that I have found. The ice is crystal clear. If you want really clear ice, you have to clean the mold and cup each time, use hot water, and don’t leave the ice in the freezer too long. My freezer takes about 12-14 hours to freeze the ice cube without freezing all of the water in the cup. You can then place the cube in a ziploc and keep in the freezer. The downside is it only makes one cube. I now own 6 of these, so I can store up enough cubes every two weeks or so. Originally, this item was $50. The company stopped making them, so I guess they’re selling off the inventory for cheap.

This is the perfect product it just need a lid to be a great to go cup. I wish it was a little cheaper. That the only bad things I can say about.. There is no special water the only thing I had to do was turn my deep freezer to a lower temperature it worked great in my refrigerator with out doing anything. That was because I hand my deep freezer on a higher temperature. I put a mint leaf, pineapple, grapes, cucumber, cherries in the in the ice ball. It was cool, pineapples made it a little cloudy because of the juice. Everything about it is quality. It takes 24 hours to do the slow freeze so that it is clear but it is like glass.I will buy another one. I can not express how easy it is just follow the simple direction and store the one you make in a zip lock bag. I will find me a container to hold mine later. I will measure the size and upload pictures later. I was worried about the size but it is a good size.

It requires a skill I obviously do not have
I read the reviews. did the same thing they did and still I get an incomplete ball. I have the Zoku Silicone Ice Sphere molds and they make several at a time. Sure this one is clear, but it has a flat side and takes up a lot of room/requires it be upright, etc. While the thing works, it makes the one ball and if so many people are not able to make it make a perfectly round ball, then it isn't worth the hassle to me. I will just look past the "non clear" issue with the Zoku molds https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CJHCCW4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and hope my guests prefer the complete round frosty shape to the clear semi-ball.

Works like a charm!
I was a friends house and they made me a drink with a crystal clear sphere in it. I have a couple cheap-o ice ball makers and they're always cloudy so I asked about it. They showed me this Corkcicle maker so I pulled it up on Amazon and it was $19.99. I pulled the trigger and now I have crystal clear balls, too! I just got it a couple days ago and have made one each night. I put a mint leaf in one and it turned out really cool. I'm guessing this will vary a bit by freezer, but I put mine in the morning before work and take it out the next morning before work, then fill it up again. Only about 1/4" of ice is frozen below the ball so it is easy to throw some warm water in it and be ready to fill it up for a new ball. When my friend showed it to me, they had it sitting in their freezer for a while so the whole cup was frozen solid and it took a while for them to thaw it out. I would agree that it takes a full 24 hours for it to work right (in my freezer). I have only done it 2 days in a row but have 2 perfect spheres and plan to continue to stock up as they'll go fast on the weekend.

Who knew ice could be this easy?
I have researched and tried several methods for getting large, clear ice and it's not easy...not until now anyway. After trying the Corkcicle for the first time I knew I'd found what I was looking for. No boiling or filtering water. No chiseling away at partially-frozen-mega-blocks of ice. I simple fill with tap-water...Yes! Tap-Water....Freeze and pop the perfectly clear & round ice balls out, bag and repeat. One final thought, some people may be turned off because you can only freeze one cube at a time. To me I see this as an Advantage. Let me explain, in order to achieve large, clear cubes it requires a great deal of space above the desired block size. If the device produced more than one cube it would be Huge and would take up Way too much space in my freezer. Simple solution to the single cube issue, I simple make a habit to refill the unit everyday after work. By the weekend I've got enough ice for my needs. If you still need more cubes, buy a second unit...they're not very expensive.
