The set is not matte. The pictures are misguiding, they look matte in the pics but they are really a shiny black stainless or dark grey metal. I decided to buy because someone asked if they were matte and the seller responded that they were "truly matte". I took a picture over a black mat plate were it can be appreciated how shiny they are. The quality is not good, some edges are sharp (poor finished). The spoons have streaks in the metal. Some handles have stain-like spots. In returning them.

How I love my black silverware, let me count the ways. I've always wanted black silverware and I recently moved, I thought now is the time to get it! I got this set and I couldn't be happier and they're dishwasher friendly! They've been washed multiple times in the dishwasher and by hand, no dents of scratches. They go perfect with my black, white, and gray plates. If you want a change in silverware, I highly suggest this set!
