daily use
This small deep fryer is exactly what I needed for quick, crispy meals at home. It heats up fast, maintains temperature well, and is super easy to clean, easy to use. The power work quick and the light on the bottom is life saving! Great for fries, chicken, and snacks—without taking up much counter space. Ideal for small kitchens or occasional frying!

Perfect it’s frying good
I’ve been using the Chefman Fry Guy Deep Fryer and overall I’m happy with it. It’s compact and easy to use, which makes it perfect for small kitchens, apartments, or if you just want to make a few servings of crispy fries or chicken without heating up a big fryer. It heats up quickly and the adjustable temperature control lets me dial in the heat just right so foods come out nicely golden and crispy.

Not the results I wanted. Returned the item.
Overall, low profile countertop deep fryer was an appropriately sized vessel for the oil. Unit heats up quickly. Unfortunately, the thermostat is a low quality. It never did attain the high heat advertised. I'm sure it's endemic to all these small fryers but once you drop a basket of things to cook, it really pulls down the oil temperature quick and the recovery is slow. There is a plate required between uses to recover the temperature. Unfortunately, this tends to lead to a more soggy result. I guess if I want the really good quality results like I did at my restaurant that I owned for 20 years, I'm gonna need to get a gas fryer. I would say this unit is best for some thin foods like battered shrimp, but even the very thin cut french fries I cooked came out limp and soggy, even though they were brown to the point of almost burning.

We love catfish and this appliance has made it possible to have it at home and cooked in healthy oil.

Honest review of someone that has had both types of deep dryers
Before buying this deep fryer, I had only ever had a deep fryer with the heat coil on the outside of the housing of the unit, that sits directly in the oil and that you slide off to empty and clean the deep dryer. I was tired of cleaning the build up around the heat coil, so decided to try this little fryer. First off, this deep fryer does heat a little slower. This is to be expected when the coil is not directly in the oil, rather in the housing at the bottom. This also means it also takes a little longer for the food to get to the desired temp. I did not find the extra time to be an issue. Secondly the heat is limited. I could only get it up to 365, and that was testing with a very expensive thermometer that I know is accurate. This can be good and bad. When using the ones with the coil directly in the oil, the temp gets much hotter faster and is more prone to burning your oil. But again, on this Chefman deep fryer, you will have to wait longer on the temp to get back up after lowering it from putting food in it. Space is a benefit of the coil being part of the housing like it is in this Chefman deep fryer. My previous deep dryer with the coil on the outside and sitting directly in the oil, which is the same Elite Gourmet listed on Amazon, holds 1.6 liters. But because the basket has to sit above the coil, you actually get less space to fry. The Chefman, with the heat coil as part of the housing, allows for full use of the 1.5 liters, giving you actually more room for food. Cleaning is the biggest reason to go with a deep fryer that has the heat coil as part of and under the housing. Cleaning the other type, with the coil outside the housing and sitting directly in the oil, is a nightmare and was usually a half day project for me. I would have to first boil water and a cleaning solution in the fryer and then take a wire brush to get all the gunk off the higher part of the coils. Really this comes down to a preference. If you prefer something that cleans easy, makes full use of the oil reservoir allowing for more food, doesn't run the risk of burning your oil, and you are okay with it taking a little more time to get to temp, this fryer is great for you. If you prefer quick fast and very high heat, and do not mind the laborious clean up, oil burning quicker, and less fryer space, then you will want to get a deep fryer with heat coil outside the housing that sits directly in the oil. After having both types, I am very happy with this Chefman deeper fryer. In the end it is just less work for someone like me that uses a deep fryer regularly.
