I was worried about the net sachets being plastic but they're OK!
Not bad! I purchased mainly for the genmaicha blend as that is my favorite. I held off giving feedback because the plastic-looking net sachet it comes in really threw me off as it worried me about cancerous leeching material I've always heard about for plastic teabags. However, upon doing more research at Smith's site it appears more thought than I gave them credit for goes into these bags. Here's a snippet I found quite interesting "Our sachets are created from a plant-based material called Soilon. More specifically, they are made using a Polylactic Acid (PLA) derived from plant materials that is 100% commercially compostable and certified safe by the FDA. Additionally, our sachets are sealed with sound wave technology, meaning there is no glue or staples present anywhere in our process. We have tested our sachet material through a 3rd party to ensure its safety, and most importantly, we assure you that our sachet is not comprised of PET plastic or nylon." Definitely puts my mind at ease more. Nice to know they're biodegradable and conscious of no glue use. Unfortunately the protective packet is not biodegradable but according to their site "We are searching for a material that has similar barrier properties and is biodegradable and will make the switch to that material as it becomes available." so freshness butts up with eco consciousness on that unfortunately.Flavor is always fine/satisfactory. I'm not a huge tea expert but still have yet to find a Smith flavor favorite enough for lifelong loyalty/repurchase anyway. Will update when I get through this box more, definitely an ample supply!I am unfamiliar with the market for this particular item and thus cannot assess "value for product" sufficiently. First impressions, will update if I find further benefits or issues w/ more use in the future.

One of the best teas I've had and very reasonably priced
I don't consider 30 dollars for 30 sachets of tea to be reasonable if its quality tea and these are pretty good. I'd never tried Genmaicha tea before and Peppermint tea only rarely, so for the purposes of the review I chose to review the Portland Breakfast. I hope to do these quality teas justice, but I'm afraid my tea palate is rather inexperienced for the task. I still drink tea regularly, but most of my experience has been with mass produced and distributed stuff rather than tea from smaller teamakers. Sometimes big companies lose sight of their original vision and sacrifice quality for profit margin, so my general expectation is for smaller companies to produce better quality and in this regard, Smith Teamaker did just that. I don't think I could pinpoint exactly what I was tasting in terms of flavor or aroma notes, but as far as black breakfast teas go, this is easily the best I've tasted. Very bold flavors you come to expect from a black tea. Rich and fragrant. One thing I DID notice was that it didn't have that bitter, slightly acidic tasting astringency I'd experienced from other teas I've had. Somehow both flavorful, but also smooth.Haven't tried the Genmaicha yet or the Peppermint but will add to the review when I do, but wanted to get this much up for others to see. Long story short, this tea had all the flavor I was looking for and then some with none of the flaws others have had and are priced reasonably. Sure, there are less expensive teas out there, but I would rather pay a little extra for the better taste and if you do too, these won't disappoint!

LOVED these
The assortment is a great choice for anyone who loves tea. The assortment includes three different flavors: Portland Breakfast, Genmaicha, and Peppermint. I found all three flavors to be of high quality and delicious, but I particularly enjoyed the Peppermint flavor! It had a unique taste with a hint of chocolatey mint that made it stand out from other peppermint teas I've tried. One thing I really appreciated about this assortment is that the teas are sugar-free, non-GMO, and plant-based. This made me feel good about choosing a healthy and ethical product. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tea assortment to anyone looking for high-quality, delicious teas from the Pacific Northwest.

If you appreciate a fine tea, these are especially lovely teas - good value for the quality
I'm glad to support Smith Teamaker as they have a very nice product. Starting with packaging, the shipping box evidences an uncommon care for their product. The individual tea envelopes are inviting, but it's when you open the envelope that you can tell that these tea leaves are a clear cut above your supermarket varieties.I'm enjoying my first Portland Breakfast today on a rainy Sunday and it's delicate and smooth. Not everyone likes Genmaicha, but if you do, this is a really nice blend. And the tea bag itself smells beautiful before steeping. And the peppermint is perfect before bed.I've found that you can easily get two solid cups from a single bag, and even a 3rd although you can tell the 3rd is at the end. Considering these teas cost the same as a single keurig pod, this has to be recognized as a better value for a higher quality beverage. I appreciate what the Smith people are doing with their teas and we will order from them again.

Flavors for 2 of the teas are okay
As someone who loves tea, I was excited to get this. This tea assortment comes with three flavors: Portland breakfast, Rose City Genmaicha, and Peppermint. According to the back of the box, the teas are blended and packed in Portland Oregon. Each tea bag comes individually packed, which is nice for freshness. The back of each packet also comes with instructions for water temperature and steeping time. The genmaicha tea was my favorite out of the three. It has the roasted rice and green tea taste I'd expect from genmaicha. However, the rose was incredibly subtle and barely picked up on it.The peppermint tea was okay as peppermint teas go. I'm typically not a fan of it, but the flavor was exactly what I would expect from it.The Portland breakfast was my least favorite. Even after steeping it for at least 5 minutes as instructed, I found the flavor pretty weak for my taste.
