The Quiet Man (Olive Signature)

Really excellent copy and worth getting in BlueRay..but isn't wide screen....and yes the movie itself is one of the great ones.
We already had the non-BlueRay version...my wife wanted this one for her birthday. The video is outstanding quality with great color, nice sharp images and WAY better than the standard version. I was worried that it would be no better than the standard version but it is. But all isn't perfect.....the standard version filled up my wide screen 60" TV fully....this one is a very tight box that leaves a large amount of the screen blank on each side. Guess it was designed to fit the older, more square TVs. I can live with it but my wife is not happy and considering returning it....but other Blue Ray versions don't list what their format is so we may not get a wide screen either with other choices. So if you can live with a non wide screen image...or your TV allows you to adjust the image (without distorting it) this is a really good copy....otherwise you may want to save some money and get a non BR version that is listed as wide screen. As far as the movie....it is one of the greatest ones for "Duke". My family visited Ireland a couple of times and our tour bus drove over that famous bridge...but we all had to get off the bus to keep from bottoming out and doing some damage to the bus and/or the bridge.

This is probably the best it will look
Just finished watching the Olive Signature edition of "The Quiet Man". It looks good. Really good. This edition is, to my eyes a bit darker and green, red and blue colors are very saturated and solid. In some shots the colors seem to jump off the screen as in the shots of Will Danaher in his racing jacket. The darker interiors look very good also but some may find them a bit too dark I was fine with all the interior shots. Good grain structure, great sharpness, clarity, contrast and a robust soundtrack. I did notice a bit of optical flaring, on the right hand side, in the shot where Michaleen takes Sean to White O' Morn but everything else looks good to my eyes. Could it look better? Possibly. Some of the professional reviewers thought there could have been a bit more cleanup but, unless somelike Criterion gets their hands on it, this is as good as it will get. And it is very good and worth double-dipping for me. English subtitles and lots of extras, too. This is one of my top 10 films and it finally gets a treatment that, while maybe not perfect, is very satisfying.

Great Classic, Exceptionable Restoration
I've been waiting for this Blu-ray for a while. The restoration is so good. I love this movie, and was glad when they released it on DVD years ago. The colors on the DVD were over-exaggerated and the images not as clear as I'd hoped, and when I saw this Blu-ray I couldn't resist. It's wonderful that the process of restoration is being applied to the classic movies, and this one has restored very well. I highly recommend.

The Quiet Man
A classic John Wayne/Maureen O'Hara movie, it hearkens back to the days when sex scenes, violence, and profanity were not Hollywood requirements for a film. Okay, there are fistfights in this one, but they're almost comic, and no one gets hurt, really (no blood). I've wanted this for my collection for a long time.

Stunning
This 4K transfer is nothing short of stunning, the first DVD release had abhorrent registration and blown out hue and chroma... it doesn't get any better than this issue. It's a shame they couldn't photo-shop out the flies landing on O'hara or Fitzgerald spitting in MacGowran's face.

John Wayne's answer to Jane Austin
Not a western, set in Ireland, Wayne's character comes home from America to settle in his parent's small village. Wayne's Americanized ways clash with a local landowner whose sister catches the eye of the American. Can he fit in, can love win out or will tempers overflow?
