exceptionally tight
This book weaves the characters together with reality and grace under pressure. Remember that the men are all 20 something and are facing extraordinary pressures. The author captures their humanity and the inhumanity of war with excellent plot twists.

Probably a three and a half
OK enjoy reading of navel actions, this one had some good ones, however it also had a bit too much romance and sexual activity for me. I served in the sea service and well aware of shore time activities which can be mentioned with out so much description of it.

Good WW2 adventure
The series is good but I'm not caring much for the love interest that was introduced and took up too much time. Otherwise this is a great reading story.

In my search for the Submarine’s named Trigger or Triggerfish, I came to this writer.. superior first step if you like navy and submarine lore stories.

another wonderful war story
The story of Lt Harding is both one of a daring commander and the pressures they are under and the personal sacrifices they undertake.

Almost like reading an autobiography
As a rule I do not read books about naval warfare nor do I as a rule write reviews. I was amazed by the two books I've read by Antony Melville-Ross, Command and Trigger. The main characters are portrayed as real people, not heroes or villians, just people going about their life to the very best they can, sometimes more than the very best, sometimes less.

Action at Sea
Action at Sea This story moves at a steady pace. There is abundant action to please any armchair reader of naval historical fiction. The author weaves into the story great detail of WWII submachine action that only underscores hid deep knowledge of his material. The portrayal of his main character struggles to balance his duty as a commanding officer at wartime with his obligation to his crew for which he bears ultimate responsibility only underscores the dilemma of a very human condition. This moral dilemma adds dimension to his main character as a naval officer and as a human being. The steady drumbeat of naval action on almost every page will leave the most casual reader wanting more. I know I will.

A superb novel where the characters ARE the story
The pressures of wartime command in the submarine service are revealed to all. From the downtime and recovery needed by the captain to the on-shore fears of one of the sailors. This is a great story, but it’s all about the characters instead of the action.

A good page turner
Gripping tales of derring do in the swashbuckling submarine service. So great action narrative and strong portrayal of the stresses of submarine command. Two aspects grated. Submariners call their submarines ‘boats’ but they are referred to wrongly as ‘ships’ in the narrative. Additionally there’s an episode of ‘psychiatric’ rehabilitation which seems completely unbelievable and adds little to the story. The same plot could have been developed in a more credible way.

Trigger
A book I think anyone interested in fiction war stories would embrace. Well laid out with no complications, very hard to put down. Excellent read perfect for those who suffer from insomnia.

Adventure Story
Rattling good adventure story in the "derring do" tradition, but thoughtful about stresses and strains placed upon the combatants. Written with a seaman's knowledge.

the pressure of water and responsibility keenly felt.
An enjoyable read, as was the first book - am now enjoying the third one. A book it was hard to put down, as one wonders what will happen next, to all the people inside the submarine and those on shore.

Malta! I wanted to understand more of what they suffered during 11.
I found TRIGGER'S story completely enthralling! The tale of Peter Harding, and all his very brave men is indeed wonderful. The author really knows his subject...and his characters are fascinating, as well as very brave, all of them! A work to be proud of. Davine Marsden
