Kitchen Shears that scream Beauty and Elegance!
I am known as the gadget guy in my house as my wife can attest to. When it comes to the kitchen, I love my kitchen tools. These Mairico are absolutely gorgeous and definitely made to last a very long time. They feel great in the hand and are spring loaded which is a feature that I love. None of our other kitchen shears are spring loaded and its always a pain to open them back up when cutting through things. Because these are spring loaded, there is a latch that will keep them closed and secure. The blades are made of a very good stainless steel and are very sharp. I had no issues whatsoever when I opened up a Cornish hen to be cooked on the grill.I have never seen a pair of kitchen shears of this kind of quality and the handles really make these shears stand out with beauty and elegance.

Great poultry shears
Great heavy-duty shears perfect for cutting through poultry bones. Spring loaded for easy squeezing and a lock to keep them closed. Very attractive item, great value for under $25, only downside is one of the handles was a different shade of brown and because they're spring loaded they don't come apart for cleaning.

Completely disappointing poultry shears
I used my Mairico Super Heavy Duty Poultry Shears for the first time today, doing the task I primarily bought them for, cutting up raw chickens. I have been making a raw-recipe cat food for eight years now, the chicken--including the bones--having to be cut up before going through the meat grinder. I have been cutting up chickens with my Henckels kitchen shears, plus a heavy cleaver for the drumstick bones. This worked adequately, but last week a handle on the Henckels shears finally broke and I needed a replacement. I checked out the poultry shears at Amazon, reading all the reviews, and decided these Mairico shears would be just the thing. Reviewers raved about the sharpness, ease of use, and the ability to cut through even turkey bones. What a disappointment. Not only did the shears not cut through the larger bones, I had to struggle mightily to get through any bones. Cutting the joints apart was laborious requiring repeated attempts at every cut. Even cutting the skin and meat, the shears were balky and difficult, as if only the first half inch of the blade tips would cut anything. The soft tissues kept bunching between the blades, the shears chewing rather than cutting the meat. It was like trying to cut sewing fabric with a child's cheap craft scissors. I could cut only by using only little snips, since only the first portion of the blades seem to be able to cut.Why the shears did such a poor job I don't know. Perhaps there is too much play between the blades since only the tips seem to fit together tightly. Unless these are a faulty pair, I would have to say these shears are very unsatisfactory, virtually useless. Too bad, as the box they come in is so nice and the shears so beautiful to look at.I will try to return them as defective. It just doesn't make sense that they work so poorly, when there are so many outstanding reviews!

Hard to handle
I didn't actually try to cut anything with these. They might work fine for their intended purpose. They never even made it to my kitchen. I opened the box and grasped the handles. I unlatched them and they almost flew out of my hand. I am a woman but I do not have small hands. It was difficult to hold on to these without my hand sliding up toward the blade. The wood is very smooth and the handles are skinny and shaped strange for comfort. I couldn't imagine trying to use these if my hands were even slightly damp. My husband even inspected them and just shook his head and handed them back.

'eh.
They're nice but the latch keeps coming off and it's a pain because just the slightest jostle in the drawer and they spring open.

Great quality, cut through bone easily (wild ducks we hunt) but won't slice through the mass of feathers. If birds or poultry are picked or skinned first they cut through easily. Small hands may have some trouble handling these.

Save your money
Received these yesterday and then tried to spatchcock a whole chicken. These are the WORST -- worst job of trying to cut chicken ever. They are not sharp and all they did was bend and twist skin and i had to use two hands to finally remove the backbone.Returning them today.
