Aquaclear A1392 30-Gallon Foam Inserts,Black, 3-Pack

I have one large sponge in the bottom of my 75 gallon aqua clear filter, then the charcoal bag, then the ceramic rings and then I put three small filters like this at the very top equals the same size as a large sponge. I learned to always clean them in the buckets of used water I siphon from the tank and to never rinse them under the sink to clean or you will kill the good bacteria. So I end up having to fill to the top, 2 gallon buckets so they first get cleaned in the first bucket and then into the second bucket they go.

Bought these to replace my intake filter screen, my fish kept getting stuck to it which resulted in death. Decided to try this hack on my 2 marineland penguin 350s. All I did was cut through the sponge and place them on the intake tube. They needed a little work to get on there but once it's on, it's on, I'm also hoping these will keep my carbon filter cartridges clean till I can get some actual filter media. They may look ugly but it should do what I need them to.

Fits the filter fine and does the job.I like the filter (that I bought here) very much. I thought it was a bit noisy at first but before I had the chance to learn how to lube the impeller, it quieted down so that it's virtually silent, much quieter than a canister across the room.Also, there is a coupon deal with the filter (my box didn't have the coupon but I found it online in the listing on a pet supply company website) where if you buy the filter and one year's supply of inserts (12 carbons, 6 foams) the company will send you enough for another year. Such a deal!

I double up on the foam blocks, in my AquaClear HOB filters, then put the ceramic rings on top of that. You don't need the carbon, unless you are specifically using it to remove medication or some other chemical. So, doubling the foam blocks give you much more bio-filtration surface area.I also wrap some foam around the filter intake. This gives you even more surface area for your beneficial bacteria. Plus, it acts as a pre-filter, to keep most of the debris, and other stuff, from getting to your filter compartment. It makes your filter last longer, requiring less maintenance. It also keeps little shrimp from getting sucked in.

Great filter media material. Very cheap and easy to fill any empty space in a filter. Very coarse and excellent at catching large to small (ish) debris. Would recommend for any filter, internal or external, but do rinse off before adding. Lasts almost forever, I have kept some for over 3 years and I never wash them (I only swap out the filter pads).

I purchased an Aquaclear 30 HOB filter off Amazon on 2/8/2019. I purchased these Aquaclear 30 Foam inserts on 2/24/2019 in order to run two mechanical sponges. It may not be noticeable in the pictures, but the sponge that came with the filter has a faint yellow tint where the 3-pack sponges are completely white. There was a hole in the bio media bag that came with the filter so crumbs of bio media were all over the inside of the filter box. IDK if that or something else caused the yellow tint. Since these sponges will change color upon use, I'm going to assume the 3-pack sponges are the same as the one included with the filter. In image one, the sponge that came with the filter is on the left and the 3-pack sponges are on the right. In image two, one of the 3-pack sponges is on the bottom and the filter sponge is on top of it.
