I work with wood and this meter is perfect for judging when timber is ready to use. I'll also be taking it to house viewings to get a true reading on damp issues...the details a surveyor generally doesn't bother to assess accurately.

The media could not be loaded. I remember about a decade ago getting a number of companies around to test for damp in our house when we bought it. A couple of them used a device very similar to this as part of their surveys. It's a very quick, basic, but effective way of understanding if a given building material has a higher moisture content than it should. Even if you don't fully appreciate what the results mean, what's causing it or how to fix it, you can at least understand that you may have a problem and take steps to address it.The device is really easy to use. It comes with two AAA batteries to install, and then you have four buttons to control it. Turn it on with the power/Mode button, which also cycles between testing wood or other building materials. You flick the cap off of the end and remove the rubber covers from the two prongs on top. You then push those two prongs into the material to be tested and you get an immediate reading on the clear to read display. The device will guide you whether the material has a high moisture content. As I say, it won't tell you why, or how to fix it, but it will confirm that you may have an issue and you can look to remedy the situation.It's not going to solve any problems for you, it's merely confirming that you might have a problem. And it does it very well, and very easily. And for that, I think it does an excellent job.

Like all tools of this nature, this is a really useful affordable guide to know whether or not you need to go to the expense of getting a professional in. If you are a professional, you’ll likely need a better meter than this.The instructions are ridiculously tiny even with my reading glasses and you need to read the instructions to know how to get the top off! Press it backwards, don’t try to prise it off, you’ll break it. You can do it with one hand and like all things, it’s easy once you know how and you’d know if you could read the instructions without a microscope.Once you’re in, remove the prong covers and hey presto, it works perfectly. It has two main settings, wood and building and a low, medium, high gauge to go along with the numbers. It also has a surprisingly accurate thermometer which is great as often damp and temperature go hand in hand. A really useful feature is the hold button. Place the prongs in the area you need, press the hold button and you can remove the prongs without losing your reading which will save your neck being bent into ridiculous shapes.I got this to keep an eye on the damp levels of the internal structure of my motorhome as I recently got caught out with a serious amount of damp around the back window that I was completely unaware of as there were no visual signs of it. It cost a lot of money to get it fixed and if I’d had one of these and used it regularly, I wouldn’t have missed it. Now, I keep a note book. I know it’s fine as it’s been repaired and it’s changes I’m looking for. I keep it along with the gas sensor meter as part of my regular checks. Perfect.

The meter itself is good but the written instructions in box are impossible to read even with a magnifying glass

Unable to give review on how it worked as it never worked even with me trying 3 different sets of batteries so had to return which wasn’t great as I didn’t realise it was from a third party seller and had to return via UPS to Germany. This meant printing of paperwork using 5 sheets a4 due to what was required by customs. I will ensure all future orders don’t involve doing this

I already had a similar item to this but when my daughter had a damp problem with her hallway I loaned it to her and never saw it again, so this one I intend to keep by my side and safe from our children grasp and sight, lol.This unit is well made and feels solid with no burrs or poor moulding marks. Along with the unit comes a cap which doubles as a tester / calibrator for the unit and to keep the spikes safely away from fingers when not in use.Using this is pretty straight forwards although there are different settings for the different materials so I do need to keep the instructions handy so that I can reference them each time I use this, I'm sure that in time I will remember which settings I need to use but until then at least the instructions are clear.When I was ready to test a wall I set it to the correct material setting, in my case it was for a plastered brick wall, I then simply pushed the two prongs into the wall just slightly and straight away the correct moisture reading came up and was easily read thanks to the large backlit display.This is a must to find any damp problems in almost all material types.Recommended.

Acheté pour détecté des traces d'humidité et déterminer grossièrement les taux. Très surpris par la qualité du produit !Bien évidemment il ne faut pas s'attendre à des miracles, les mesures données ne sont pas exactes à 100% mais les ordres de grandeurs sont les bons et la précision très correcte.La sonde de température est un plus appréciable pour un usage de maintenance de bâtiments.
