Queen of wine glasses

I've loved Riedel wineglasses for years.
While it's true that you can get decent glasses for cheaper, they can't approach the experience of drinking a great Bordeaux inspired wine out of a glass that's designed specifically to enhance the experience is something that other offerings just can't match. I have Riedel Sommelier glasses, which are hand blown lead crystal but they're very expensive and very fragile so I don't feel comfortable using them every day. These Vinum series Bordeaux glasses are a great everyday solution. Lead crystal, formed to enhance specific qualities in the wines I love the most but machine blown and more sturdy. And I'll tell you a little secret: unless you're dealing with a hardcore wine snob, most people will be just as blown away by these as they are by the much more expensive Sommelier versions. Personally, I prefer not to drink wine with people who use words like "precocious" to describe wine, I'd much rather enjoy wine with people who can just appreciate it for what it is and what it does in their mouth. These glasses are perfect for 99% of your wine drinking (of you're drinking big reds) and I'm pretty sure most people will get more enjoyment out of them than their more expensive cousins. Salute!

Wonderful glasses for Chardonnay wine
Wonderful glasses for Chardonnay wine. Reidel makes a very nice glasses for wine and they are very thin and delicate yet very strong. I have been using Reidel glasses, of various sizes, for my wine for 40 years. I hand wash them eventhough they say that you can put them in the dishwasher.

These will really make your dark red wines taste better
I ran into the Reidel glassware on a cruise and did the wine tasting of putting the same wine in different glasses. This glass is also known as the Tannin Tamer and really does work to remove the tannic bite present in dark reds. Like any crystal glass, they are a bit easier the shatter than the thick, not so versatile glasses, but if you are spending this much, hopefully you take care of your stuff. The Sommelier had said never to use soap on the glasses, but the website belies that and they are much prettier to look at and to drink from if they are well washed with soap and water. You can occasionally polish them by holding them in the steam from a boiling pot of water and using lint free glasses, they really shine then, but for normal use, a bit of dawn and water goes a long way. Do rinse them right after use. They form a ring of dark red right around the stem and unless you have small hands, cleaning it is tough.

Elegant & an AMAZING deal!
GORGEOUS! They came packaged extremely well... no breakage. My "good" wine glasses are from Baccarat (same style. but more $$$), and I have to say these glasses are superior to my Baccarat glasses. I liked them so much that I bought another set! This is an incredible deal... to get 8 of these glasses for the price of 6. The stem is thin, so you do have to use some care when you wash them. I've put them in my dishwasher, and so far, they still look as beautiful as the day I received them. I bought the Chablis Chardonnay wine glasses, and the size can easily be used for both red and white wine... perfect for any table when you're serving both red and white wine at a meal. Not sure if I'll ever use my Baccarat glasses again. I definitely recommend the Riedel glasses. High quality and just plain gorgeous.

Very nice but very expensive
My wife and I have always had inexpensive and somewhat random wine glasses so When it was time to get a complete set I decided to go big and got 16 Cab/Merlot Ridel glasses. They were delivered in well protected boxes with none broken. The stickers were easy to remove and left no sticky film on the glass. There is clearly a difference with these crystal glasses, almost weightless and the thin glass is super smooth on the lips so you can really experience the wine you are drinking. The glass does feel breakable but so far I haven't broken any and washed them all. The real test will be when we host our next wine party (I'll update this review if the glasses let me down). My only complaint is the price. I feel like I spent twice the price for these compared to similar Cab/Merlot glasses. Not saying it was a bad choice but not sure the value of these glasses is really there

Bargain and nice glasses
To get the two extra glasses is great. It's on the small size but versitile as can be used for any type of white wine except a white bordeaux

Riedel glass is easily cracked
I bought a set of 8 about two years ago and have really enjoyed using them. They really are the canonical shape and size for cabs and merlots (and zins too, if you ask me). Advertised as "dishwasher safe", I've been putting them in the dishwasher from time to time. Last weekend, my third Riedel bit the dust. As you can see, the crack is in the middle of the glass, not along the edge or at the stem. All three of my cracked Riedels failed in the same way. And i don't think it's from the dishwasher either, because I have a habit of checking glasses as I remove them. This latest one in fact, cracked *after* I poured wine into it! I believe I clinked with another Riedel in my set, but the glasses touched with hardly any force at all. In fact I recall at the time wondering if the two glasses touched since I could barely hear the sound. If you are considering this set, don't buy it, they're too fragile. If you already own a set, I recommend the following: * Wash them by hand, don't put them in the dishwasher, no matter what Riedel claims. * Check them thoroughly after washing to make sure they haven't cracked yet. * Store them with some padding around each glass, so they don't touch each other or any hard surface. * Do not clink glasses with another person. * In other words, disregard Riedel's claims of sturdiness and treat them as you would a priceless antique. I hope this review has helped.

Very nice glasses. Bought as a replacement for ones I had broken. These were much cheaper than other sellers. They were brand new but packaging showed signs of them being returned. OK for me, but better to know in advance.

The glasses themselves are quality; lightweight but reasonably durable considering their delicacy. This is a popular brand well-known for their varietal specific glassware; as my space (and patience) is limited, after some research I chose this specific model as a good all-around glass for common white varietals and medium-bodied reds in a pinch. I used to work in the industry and in spite of this (or perhaps because of it) I decided life is too short to buy six different sets of glasses. I'm happy with the product performance. What I'm not happy with is Amazon's bizarre approach to packing delicate glassware; they just throw the Riedel box in a cardboard shipper with no attempt at isolation or protection, hope for the best and call it a day. One out of eight glasses arrived broken. Simply not worth the trouble to return them and either get them elsewhere or roll the dice to see if the next shipment arrived intact. So I'm eating the cost of one broken glass and cutting my losses; that said I will not be buying glassware from Amazon again.

We have been using Riedel’s Vinum Chardonnay glasses as our everyday (well, every day we drink wine that is, not literally *every* day) pick for at least 30 years now. Although we have a few of Riedel’s other varietal-matched glasses these are the ones we have chosen to buy in quantities sufficient for wine tastings or larger gatherings. IMO it is a perfect ”all-round” glass. Large enough for a good ”swirl” but small enough to go into the dishwasher (which they handle with no obvious problems). Comfortable in the hand and to the lip, elegant but understated and above all surprisingly durable. We manage to break one roughly every other year although whether they become brittle as a result of repeated trips through the dishwasher or we just have clumsy guests is anyone’s guess. Nevertheless this 8-for-6 pack is the most cost-effective way I have found to stock up on these fantastic workhorses. Recommended!

These are lovely glasses to drink from and despite their elegant look are hardy.
