This is listed to match a sierra 57904P guage. ...
This is listed to match a sierra 57904P guage. According to sierra marine this sender is a dual station sender. The the one I needed is a single station sender. Spent quite a bit of money on other possible causes of over heating before questioning the the guage and sender. Suggest calling sierra marine technicai support to make sure product capatabilty before purchasing.

Good generic brand replacement.
Works as described at a fraction of the cost. Just a tip -- don't confuse this for the temperature alarm sending unit, which apparently is only available directly from Mercruiser and not from any 3rd parties.

Worked for a while, now reading too high
This part worked for 4 years, but it’s resistance has dropped, and now produces misleading high temperature readings. I bought this and installed it, along with a new gauge, to fix faulty temp readings. Turned out that only the gauge was bad, but I left it in place, and saved the original oem sender. I just put thre oem unit back in, and the reasons are good. Recommend getting an oem sender if you need one.

Recieved out of calibration.
Says it replaces Mercruiser and Volvo sending units. I repowered from Volvo to Merc, same 3.0 liter GM. New Merc but left the old Volvo instrument panel in place. The new sending unit was reading 40 deg F high. Replaced with this and it read 80 degrees F high at the panel (against a calibrated IR gun on the thermostat housing discharge. Replaced this unit with a Princes Auto/Harbour Freight sending unit that comes with a temp gauge and Bingo! Only four degrees high! What can I say? The description says it is compatible with both Merc and Volvo. Has GM changed the sending unit? Maybe it is compatible with a Teleflex gauge but not mine.
