Pommery Moutarde Royale au Cognac - 8 oz.

I very much like the unique taste. Very full and kind of velvety while being bold. My only warning is about the packaging. The jar is closed with a natural cork that is fitted flush with the rim. It leaks easily. The first jar sent to me leaked so much that the post office declined to deliver it. The second jar came by UPS. It, too, had leaked, but not so badly. It's the only downside. Tip for opening: After removing the wax seal, use the tip of a sharp pocket knife to lever up the cork at two or three places.

The product came very quickly. I watched a brief YouTube video on how to get the cork out and how to reseal it for easy reopening. I bought it to make a Cognac-mustard beef stew recipe that was highly rated in the NY Times food and recipe section. The recipe wasn't to my liking. In addition to the small amount of this mustard it called for, it was loaded down with nearly 3/4 of a jar of Dijon mustard (I used Grey Poupon). It was too strong...overpowering. Next time, I would cut down or even cut out the Dijon and use a little of this to get the mustard flavor. This is very strong mustard. You won't like it, if your idea of mustard is our mild-American-French's-every- day-mustard you get at the church picnic. You will like it, if you like tasting new things and coming up with creative ways to use it. I made a very nice honey mustard dressing with it. And I like it on certain strong flavored sausages. Also I'm planning to try some other cognac-beef recipes with this. "A little dab will do ya" and impart another layer of interesting flavor. I'm glad I bought it. I hope you like it!

I received this product damaged. This mustard is spectacular but beware-no returns or replacements on this product-from the seller. Amazon customer service did give me a credit- thank goodness! …I placed another order for the same item, from another seller.

I also received a jar that is leaking. The wax seal on top does not completely cover the edge on one side. The edge of the wax seal is not tight.

this mustard has a wonderful taste and depth of flavor that enhances any dish. The crock is beautiful and will have other uses when the mustard is gone.
