Are you willing to do some work and make some compromises? The phone is set up in Japanese with a lot of installed features that work IN Japan. The owner's manual has maybe 4 pages of English which are all disclaimers or conformity to safety standards statements. It was zero help for setting it up. Playing with the phone for a significant chunk of time, I found the settings and was able to change some of the phone to English. Also, an on line search turned up an English version of a manual. I can NOT get to my plan's data for accessing E-mail or the Internet, so I can not check E-mail or use such apps as Wayze on the go. Using the Internet via WiFi is easy, the sound is good for listening to my Audible books as well as phone calls, and the camera is superior at 16 MP. I like the covered ports that are water resistant, so the phone should be at least "dunk resistant." The phone also includes a tiny stylus which doubles as a plug for the audio port. It would be nice if that tiny stylus had some sort of leash to attach somewhere, as it is very easy to misplace when using earbuds. This would be a 5 star phone if it came set up for English and all the functions were accessible.

The phone itself barely worked during my trip in Thailand, as part of my service package I got unlimited free wifi on the service providers wifi program, quite often when I attempted to connect to the wifi I got an error message which meant that I was halfway around the world without a working phone and so on occasion when I needed to get directions or order an uber I had to use my Sprint Phone and increase m bill with international roaming fees, as it was the only option that I had.

I must admit, I went out on a limb here based on the spec not the reviews. It was a choice between the Kata and this phone. I really wanted to love this phone but there are issues I've experienced, so I'm forced to only like it.Cons:* Screen has flickered rapidly a few times, not sure if this is a result of some rebellious app or the phone, I have observed this occur only with this phone and while different apps were running.* When you choose a word while texting you have to always press the space key otherwise the words are joined, a nuance I can live with.* It has frozen a couple of times already and I had to reset it, but I have been downloading apps like crazy! Just so much space one can get carried away, and my habit may be a contributory factor, still exploring that possibility.* It doesn't use LED flash so torch flash feature is quite dismal a major disappointment for me as it impacts on night-time picture quality.* With the right lighting pictures are clear and sharp but the higher the quality setting the bigger the file size so beware.* I didn't like that the default screen saver blanks out every 15 secs so that had to be adjusted, and like any phone, utilizing power hungry apps will drain your battery quickly.* Didn't like the fact there were no English-based North American/UK apps that took advantage of the built in 1-Seg tv tuner so could not access local tv stations.* Limited protective cases (however the quality of the ones offered by Plata are good, just a wee bit pricey)* No earphonesPROS:Overall a well-built phone, it has a decent weight and gives the impression of quality though arrived in a moderate box lacking much of the graphical splendor of more popular handsets, it scrolls smoothly, and the screen's image quality is very good.+ Speaker phone is audible+ I had sourced an English manual for the phone weeks before purchase, so had all the info I need about it. I've read somewhere that factory resetting will reboot it in Japanese mode, I will not dabble with that unless I must but there is always the English manual that is a must if you want to maximize the power of the phone's features.+ You can delete majority of the Japanese apps, and replace with ones you prefer (those that cannot be deleted I placed them in a Docomo folder, to explore if I ever decide to learn Japanese!)+ It's got tons of space, both RAM 2GB and 20GB Internal, I have not seen that much anywhere else, and when you add a 32GB memory card, there is a significant degree of satisfaction knowing it'll take a decent while before you get 'limited memory' issues.+ It is highly configurable with plenty of built in features and economy modes, it'll take the average person hours if not days to check out all the various customizations and tweeks that can be done to optimize the phone for one's personal preference which can be too much for some (but tweeking is optional and reserved more for geeks),+ I like the charger dock which allows use of the phone while charging, which has a detachable plug at one end and detachable charging base at the other end which turns the cable into a usb data cable!It took a call to my local phone company to set my APN and was gain access to their local Mobile Data plans that were available.ConclusionBy and large the gamble paid off for me, it got 3 stars as the mediocre flash which factored highly for my purposes was a let down, the observed glitches (i.e the freezing and screen flickering) are disconcerting and I'm monitoring to see how frequently they'll re-occur, hope it's temporary and I'm not in a hurry to send it back though, I do like it. I record speeches and take pictures on a regular basis, so storage and picture quality are major concerns for me, waterproof was another plus for me, and those were the tangible features that I use regularly. It was worth the gamble. I aim to update this review over time.

This device is Android I or ice cream sandwich. Making it excellent for security purposes since the old viruses are now inert. But the advantages end there. Amazing as a temporary replacement

Everything worked just fine except when i went to get service on it. They put service on it buy the internet was slower than old phone dial up modems! I'm not sure why. It was refurbished and instructions and most pre downloaded apps for functionality were in Japanese. I had to figure it own on my own. Maybe there's something in Japanese that tells us how to make the internet work with service. If that was fixed I'd give it a five star but data on a smart phone is huge.

Very neat phone, as long as you have a Japanese friend that can switch it to English, and you don't need data, you're OK.

This phone was great until i turned it on and noticed not only was it made in china but everything on the phone was chinese. Even with settings set for English, internal phone options were still in Chinese. The stand it came with was great though..it charged it while allowing it to stand upright for movies or whatver video viewing you might use. Camera was awful, it had a horrible green tint to it and was unfixable. All in all it was a waste of money for me, would have rather spent it on a phone in English. But the phone served its purpose as it was meant to be an emergency phone for wifi connection. Never did get it activated so not sure how connection would have been as it had a fold in antenna...which was a bit comical in 2017 to see on a smart phone.

Contrary to the previous reviews, mine came in English so set up was easy. The touchscreen is excellent and the phone is fast. Size is good. My Galaxy screen is broken and old so I was looking for something with the same 16 MP camera in order to take good pictures of the kids, that's where I was very disappointed with the Aquos Zeta, I am not sure why they say this phone has 16 MP camera, even after changing the settings, pictures aren't very good. Too bad, for the price, I really hoped I would like this phone! I'll keep looking because I am tired of Samsung and Apple expensive phones.
