Yes, I think the clips will work for you. Depending on the size, it will be necessary to use no more than 10-12" apart. Before sewing try clipping together. My only concern is will the clip rub against the child?

Q: Do these rust? I am thinkimg about using them to keep winter gloves together. Are they strong enough for that?

They are strong enough for that but idk if they would open wide enough the clip more than one... And as far as rusting, I haven't had mine long enough to rust.
