Charmingly unhelpful
I have had 2 reviews questioning the veracity of the claims mad about the author's credentials removed from the website. The publishers are doing a bang-up job ensuring that potential buyers are not given a fair appraisal of what they might expect by investing their hard-earned money in this book. For shame. So that the review stays up this time, I will forego said questioning. The subject of the review, therefore, is just the content of the book. So, in short, here is the book: The Source is your brain. You should practice using it. Use it often, and as with most things you do on a habitual basis, you will get better at using it. Better use of 'The Source' will benefit you.The sickeningly charming prose used in the book and the humble braggadocio are major turn offs. Do buy the book if you would like to know why the author is so great. The author does not pay nearly enough attention to just how much luck the successful need in order for one's best laid plans to go as one planned, and this unwillingness to face the cold hard facts pervades the entire book. The message the reader is left with is patently false: you can make your life great, and if you don't, that's on you. Well, no, often it isn't. Sometimes the stars don't align, as they didn't, regrettably, with the publishing of this 'self-help' book that promised so much but delivered so little.

Incredibly helpful and insightful book
I found The Source an incredibly inspiring read. Well written, highly readable with takeaways that can be applied day one. I don't agree with the review above in that yes, things don't always go our way and yes sometimes we get lucky. But it's how we chose to deal with those difficult situations that makes all the difference. It's all too easy to drown in negativity, self pity and helplessness when things go wrong. I have been through it and seen it in others. Having an explanation of how our brain is wired and how we can rewire it - the science behind the theory is incredibly empowering. Knowing it is choice, and that we can change the way we think is powerful as it is useful. I thoroughly recommend this book and have already given it to others!

Inspiring and uplifting
I am reading this as I go back to work after my second child. Having maternity leave, and some extra mouths to feed has changed my needs and wants. This book and the exercises in it are helping me to clarify what I want to do, what the near future should look like for me and how to get there. The science is fascinating but written in a way which is easy to understand. The suggested exercises are fun an engaging (i look forward to and make time for them rather than feeling myself obliged to work through them for my own good). It has left me feeling very optimistic about where I am heading and that I know I will get there.

Inviting, sensible writing
I guess that books can come along at the right time and the wrong time. This book came along at exactly the right time for me. Dr Swart's neuroscience background is open and accessible, her prose warm, encouraging and without judgement. Much of what she writes about (get more sleep, stay hydrated, do things in moderation etc) will be familiar but it's the connections she makes between brain and body- both at a physical and spiritual level- that sets this apart. She includes personal anecdotes about her own journey which could be offputting but, to this reader anyway, offered personality and colour to the self help mantras that form the core of this tome. I read it in a day which might say a lot about me, but it probably says a great deal more about her, he writing and this decent and welcome addition to the self-help and self-love shelves.

Dr Swart takes the hocus pocus out of the law of attraction
In “The Source” Dr Swart takes the hocus pocus out of the law of attraction, breaks the idea of “magical thinking” and teaches you how to mould your neuroplastic brain into driving positive and goal-orientated life changes – all according to the latest neuroscience. If you’re put off by the “energy of the universe” tenet, this is the book for you because there’s nothing New Age-ey about scientific fact and common sense.“Thinking for success” isn’t a new concept, but now Dr Swart explains the neuroscience behind the concepts followed by many highly successful and motivated people from sports starts to corporate leaders so anyone can change their thoughts and life outcomes. Whilst some may scoff at the “magic” of it all, with over 25 years of scientific and clinical experience Dr Swart knows what she’s talking about – and has walked her talk. As she writes, “We know that merely registering that something is possible in the brain can change what happens in the body of the outside world”.Dr Swart provides simple exercises so you can analyse your existing thought patterns and behaviour and upgrade them to “attract” the outcomes you do want. And journaling means you can capture and crystalize your thoughts so you really know what you’re thinking – not what you think you’re thinking! It’s an excellent book. Read about the science, learn how to reprogramme your neuroplastic brain for success and positive life outcomes, and try the concepts – just be sure to focus on what you really want because you can change your thinking and your life.
