Cable is used to program a Baofeng UV-5R+ Ham Radio. Computer recognized the chipset and loaded the driver automatically in Windows 8.1 The CHIRP programming software (FREE on the Internet) worked perfectly. I bought the RED colored cable to find it easier on my cable rack. Would recommend to anyoneneeding a cable of this type.

The cable has a chip inside it and my PC immediately recognized it when I plugged it into a USB port. I had previously downloaded a program called CHIRP, which is an app for programming amateur radios. I was programming a Baofeng BF-F8HP radio. As soon as I plugged my radio into the cable and turned my radio on to an unused frequency, CHIRP recognized my radio was there. A box popped up and asked for the radio make and model number. Don't worry about the virtual Windows port number assigned, Windows will figure it out and assign a port number. Be sure to DOWNLOAD your configuration FIRST. Then you can alter your repeater channels, offsets, etc. and upload them back into your radio.
