Best. My favorite crochet book for cables!
I usually do a list of Pros and Cons, having been a professional fiber artist and fashion designer for years. I hate to waste money and shelf space on books, yarn, and fibers that don't inspire me.In this case I'm unable to come up with one single flaw, so I'll just list what I love!1. The book itself is oversized, which provides ample space for clear charts and photos.2. Every pattern is gorgeous. Some are quick gifts or for the confident newbie, others are busy enough to keep a seasoned stitcher stimulated.3. Bonnie Barker is all about clarity. I discovered her patterns on YouTube, and I've stitched five versions of the Celtic Cross Throw. This book is written just as clearly as Bonnie's videos.4. The patterns are a perfect blend of vintage and modern, with plenty of room for designers like me to add their own spin.5. There is a large section in the back of the book with step-by-step photos of the cables and woven post stitches. I prefer crocheting cables to knitting them (it's a whole lot more fun and less fiddly), but I agree with Bonnie that old crochet cable patterns weren't as clear and elegant as knitted cables. She has brought crocheted cables up to the same level as knitting, only faster.6. Bonnie rejiggered the way we make prettier cables, and I love her take on the bulky sweater-sleeves-tied-around-the-neck. The Aranmore Sweater Wrap gives that effect without the bulk. My daughter has called dibs!7. I'm picky and demanding when it comes to buying hard copies of other designers, and I am totally happy. Every project I've made with Bonnie's patterns has turned out great, and has been a lot of fun to make.8. There are even links to YouTube videos if you'd like to feel like Bonnie is there with you.I paid for this book, and I don't know Bonnie personally, so I just love this book!

Absolutely in love with this book!
In my entire 30+ years of crocheting, I have never loved every pattern in a pattern book. Now I can't say that. Everything in the book is beautiful! The pictures are gorgeous. The patterns are well written and easy to follow. The how too section doesn't leave you guessing what they are talking about. I am going to have to get all the books in the cable series and check out the author's other pattern books. This experienced crochet is very much impressed and for once I I going to make everything in a pattern book.... eventually. Can't give words to how much I loved this book while thumbing through it. I even picked up some yarn and started trying out some of the stitch cables I had never done before. Love love love!

Beautiful Cabled Crochet
Wonderful projects, much in the style of Bonnie Barker's previous work, Contemporary Celtic Crochet. This latest book gives us 18 new beauties to create for ourselves or to give as treasured gifts. The projects include scarves, caps, fingerless gloves/wristlets, boot cuffs, a messenger bag, a shrug, sweaters, cardigans, and ponchos...all beautifully done. The instructions are given in both diagrams and written out. In addition, in the back of the book there are 32 pages of step by step color photographs of all the stitches used in each project. One thing I really appreciated is how Ms. Barker includes the brand/type of yarn used to make each example project, making it easy to go to my local yarn shop or online and get the exact yarns she used. A variety of yarns were used from fingering, to DK, to worsted, to bulky weight. There were also great tips on how to make successful yarn substitutions, stressing the importance of working up a gauge sample. In addition to the wonderful instructions included in the book, Ms. Barker has a Youtube channel for further help in putting together the lovely cabled stitches used in these projects. The sizes for the sweaters go from XS to 3X.

If you are a crocheter interested in cables, you owe it to yourself to check out Bonnie Barker's designs. Her explanations are so clear that you don't need a lot of experience. She will walk you through the stitches, and you will be left with a beautiful design.

Fabulous patterns! Beautiful book!
When I heard that Bonnie Barker was coming out with a new Celtic style crochet book I just knew I had to own it before I saw it. It's the first time I've purchased a pattern book without holding it my hands and perusing it before purchasing. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! The projects are modern, wearable, and inclusive of wearers of all sizes. Her patterns are easy to follow and if you have a question about a stitch the guide in the back of the book is very well photographed and easy to follow.Another bonus is that the 4 largest projects use yarns that you can find at regular craft stores. For the finer projects, I can easily find the yarn at my local, mom and pop, yarn shops.
