Great book on basic home improvements
If you have a minor remodel or some repairs to do around your home, I'd highly recommend this book to you. The instructions are intended to tell beginners how to do things correctly and the pictures they include make what they're saying clear. Nothing advanced is included in this book, but it's a good starting place and you probably shouldn't be taking on advanced projects, if you're a beginner, now should you?Yes, you can probably find instructions on how to do all these things on the internet, but it'll take hours of searching to find a site with GOOD information on it (I know, I did that part, too) and then when you're working, you'll have to go back to the computer all the time to see what to do, next.Long and short: if you're a beginner and you have a project in mind, it's only $16, just buy the stupid thing and save yourself a lot of headaches.

excellent resource
My husband and I are novice DIYers and purchased this book and its companion (Home Repair...in the gold cover which doesn't seem to be on Amazon right now, though we bought it with this book this past fall). We've found both books to be excellent. I agree with the other reviewer that the topics are covered in maybe 1-3 pages, but B&D has done an excellent job of keeping the writing tight and to the point, but also understandable. Additionally, the photography quality is excellent, making the photos very helpful and somewhat of a stand-in for more text. Highly recommended.

Great book for the handyman
I bought this book for my husband and he has found it very useful. We are refinishing our basement (siding, insulation, and the whole nine yards) now but the book has inspired him to do the kitchen and bathroom. We're going to work with tiles and the book is giving him some useful hints on how to do it. He also found the electrical section very useful. The pictures on top of the instructions are probably what helped him the most. He's a very graphic person and looking at the pictures has been very useful. We're new to home remodeling and we find this book to be an A++.

Great Guide
I thought this was a great guide for new home owners. We just purchased our home in the Fall. Obviously we were not expecting some of the things we would have to repair as homeowners. This book has some good pictures to show the reader how to do home repair. However many of the pictures are quite dated. I do not like the plain cover but that is to be overlooked by many.I love that there are stickers to label paint cans for future use to get more paint.

Not everything you need to know, but darn near
For a DIYer this is a must have. It will give you the basics on everything you'd need to know on how to repair your house. From the door bell back to a deck for the back yard, front to back this is a comprehensive guide. About the only things you'll be lacking on is the luxury renovations. Suanas, swimming pools, decked out bathrooms and ultra modern kitchens you may need to buy supplemental literature.

One of THE best How-To reference books in print today
While not exactly complete, this book (expanded flexbound edition) is quite thorough. It explains many things to an intermediate level, which means that if you want to take your skills further, you can find other books from here. Still, this book will take you through the main rooms of your house and basement and give you enough knowledge to get through a variety of standard projects if you have the fundamental skills and necessary tools available. I strongly recommend having it in your library.

Every time my wife wants something done around the house I look it up in the book to decide if I want to do it myself or hire a pro. It is a fantastic book for reference and a nice how-to guide for the do it yourselfer.

Excellent book for DIY projects.
This book is a must for anyone who needs to do anyone projects around the home but haven't done many improvements before. There are step by step procedures to help you along and if you know your way around a tool box you'll be fine. Even if you don't, the best way to learn is to do it so dont be afraid to get started. Pick up the book, turn to the project you need to complete, and get going!

Good book but not great
Sadly bought this and the other black and decker book (Black & Decker The Complete Photo Guide to Home Improvement: More Than ...) they are both the same print basically, one just has a hard cover. The content is good but the layout for the projects makes some difficult to find, its not very intuitive. Would suggest "Ultimate Guide: Home Repair & Improvement" instead
