A little bit more functional compost for small space on counter/
Although I thought it was a bit pricey, I really like that it is smaller than my other one, which I put by coffee maker for grounds and filter compost matter. Any bigger and it would not have fit on my counter by my sink where I needed another compost pail for veggie peels and such. Looks like quality ,unobtrusive, shiney, no odor. So for me it is a good choice.

A NICE-SIZED PAIL TO KEEP YOUR KITCHEN WASTE
We found this pail to be ideal for the amount of kitchen waste our family generates. It is well made. It has a bail on it which makes it convenient to carry to our large composter. The filter in the lid is effective at trapping odors within the pail. The stainless steel of which the pail is made presents a very good appearance and cleans quite easily. I think this 1/2 gallon pail would likely fit into any kitchen décor.

Stylish & Functional
This compost pail looks much better on my counter than the old ice cream bucket I used to use.The mini pail is the size of a large coffee can. It holds about a day's worth of scraps. The filter does an excellent job of keeping odors away. I wish it were a big larger -- I got the smaller size because I worried the big one would overwhelm my limited kitchen "real estate." I have become much better at saving my compost material because this little pail is so easy to use. It cleans up nicely.

Just the right size for the average kitchen
It wasn't easy to find a 1/2-gallon compost pail; most are larger capacity and therefore larger size. The average family will find this holds almost a week's worth of compostables - and the charcoal filter (washable) actually does eliminate odors. It's also attractive and unobtrusive, and cleans easily. And if you've had problems with fruit flies, the lid design keeps them out; the filter compartment causes the lid to fit inside the bucket rather than just sitting on top. The fit is snug enough to keep the bugs out, yet is easy to lift off with one hand.Addendum, May 2010: Be sure to check, now and then, that the screws holding on the handle are tight. I lost one, but fortunately, the manufacturer sent a replacement upon request, at no charge. Now that's customer service!

Lid falls apart
The lid is supposed to hold the carbon air filters when lifted from the can, but the inside part doesn't stay in place. It stays in the bottom part of the can, making for a very inconvenient product. It looks good and is otherwise of sturdy construction, but not worth the hassle to use. Can't recommend this product.

Rsvp Compost Pail
I was amazed as to how well this pail works. It is sitting on my kitchen counter. I couldn't smell a thing but, when I opened it lol needless to say I could smell the strawberries/tomatoes/strips of cucumber and etc. There are no little flies buzzing around it; so you wouldn't even know I had stuff in it. Wow this works great. I have had to make several trips to my compost pile cause I have been filling it up a lot faster since I have been doing the raw food lifestyle. But, no problem it is good exercise and I get to see and hear all the wildlife in my backyard that I would other wise miss. This little pail is so very easy to clean, just a little soap and hot water and looks great on my counter top taking up very little space. I would recommend it very highly to anyone wanting to compost. I know next year my garden is going to be so very happy with the end results; plus it makes me happy that I am sending out less garbage to the landfill and benefiting my land instead.

Perfect Size for Kitchen Counter
I bought the pail mainly to avoid having to get out to my compost bin often in winter when it is severely cold and snowy in Wisconsin, but it is very helpful and handy even in summer. I happened to have some biodegradable big-dog poop bags, with which I decided to line the pail so I won't have to wash it too often. The pail is pretty, the filter keeps the odor in even when it is fairly warm in the house, and I only take the content out to the bin when the bag is full, which is every five days or so. I just hope that I will be able to find a replacement filter of the right size when I need one. It would be even better if the filter were washable and reusable.

Empty it quickly
If you're in need of a temporary holding container that will be emptied into an outdoor composter daily or nearly so, you're in business with this item. If you won't be emptying it that frequently or want to let the contents get a little juicy before transferring to an indoor worm composter, avoid this item. The charcoal mesh lid liner is perfect egg-laying habitat for fruit flies. Unless you're a geneticist hoping to produce multiple generations of flies per month, it's unlikely you'll appreciate this feature.
