As expected due to the 3/8 diameter you have to keep it choked up pretty tight to avoid chatter
I got this to go along with the 5/8 version which is outstanding. As expected due to the 3/8 diameter you have to keep it choked up pretty tight to avoid chatter. Works well alongside the 5/8 version though, I start the bore with this one then move to the 5/8 for final boring and better finish.

I think better information sent with the tool or in the ad ...
Received the tool and immediately put it to work. It took a little bit to get the tool dialed in to make a smooth cut. I think better information sent with the tool or in the ad about the type of cutting bit attached would have been helpful. Yeh, I probably could have searched what that particular bit was suited for but why not include it in the write-up? I might have ordered different bits for it at the same time. Also the best angle to use the tool would have helped. Small instruction sheet with tool for best practices? Once it was dialed in, it did cut straight, accurate and created a smooth surface. I would buy it again.

Works Well!
Works well. There are flats ground on three surfaces, so don't buy a toolholder with a 'V' ground in the bottom like I did. Please note that the minimum bore size is .866 inches. Almost immediately, I needed to bore a hole that was a little smaller. Three other 5/8" boring bars I see on Amazon can do .682 or .790 or .812 inches. Unfortunately, I find myself wishing I'd bought one of those instead!

Excellent Product overall with a couple of minor faults...
Very well built and finished. Minus One Star for a technical fault: The "Depth Scale" etched on the boring bar is marked incorrectly in inches - it appears to be marked in 2mm (measured) increments. The numbers are meaningless and the depth marks are confusing (see photo). They ~did~ etch what type of insert you need on the boring bar, we well as supply a decent quality insert with it so you won't have to rummage through documentation to get replacement inserts.

Not too happy with mine
Mine has about a 15 degree down angle on the part where the insert attaches. Not sure if they all are like that but this one does not cut well and makes a screeching noise even with oil and can only male a .005 cut without really making a lot of noise and smoke. Tried cutting on center slightly above and below center, makes no difference.

Not 1/2" on flats
This boring bar sits .240" below center. Measures 1/2" diameter but when securing in a 1/2" tool holder moves insert .240" below center. Must shim so it was returned for a 5/8 .625" to machine down to correct specs we needed.

Admittedly that was when boring a steel coupling
Work's well when shortened up, but it does chatter when extended to max length. Admittedly that was when boring a steel coupling. I suspect if you were boring brass or aluminum it would be fine.

A quality 3/8" shank boring bar
An added bonus is the 3" scale embossed on the top of the boring bar (which was not included in the description). It made the project easy. The bar has adequate rigidity to avoid excess flex. The flex consistency (very little "push") made boring to the final bore diameter quick to obtain. A very good purchase.
