Full of good information
Plantar fasciitis laid me up for 6 weeks before I bought this book. I am skeptical about "cures in a book". What I found here is a compilation of common sense and collective knowledge regarding the health of your feet. For a runner, foot health is critical.Having read the criticism of this book, I still ordered it. To me searching the web and tying to separate the solid info from the "stuff" is not for me. I am not willing to experiment on myself to save a buck. The author answered questions I had not thought to ask and I would never have found that information on my own. The info in this book has been vetted by the author and his sources. It has helped me establish a plan that has got me running again and that is worth a great deal to me.The bottom line is that I found it useful for more than my PF. If you're looking for an instant cure, it doesn't exist. If you're looking for information and a number of suggestions for both prevention and cure, this book is worth considering. I am back to running with only an echo of the pain that kept me out of my running shoes for over three horrible months. I walk normally now and am able to run to recover a great deal of my condition.

Prior to walking the 500 Mile Camino de Santiago, ...
Prior to walking the 500 Mile Camino de Santiago, we purchased this book and used the recommendations detailed in this book (both products and procedures) during our training, and the adventure. We didn't get one blister during either phase even with new footwear introduced in the middle. A bit of preparation, a few purchases and the instructions in this book helped make this adventure possible. Thanks John for this book.

Excellent book with loads of information
Excellent book with loads of information. I am a long distance hiker and I have sweaty feet that easily get blisters. I learned so many things from this book that allowed me to manage all my foot problems to the point that I thru-hiked the 2600 mile PCT without a single blister!!!I've learned to manage blisters, taping my feet like pro, get rid plantar fasciitis and athlete's foot over the last few years all thanks to the knowledge I've gained from this book. Obviously if you have a serious foot problem go see a doctor. But if you use your feet hard and want to know all the tools to try to help your feet, then this is the ultimate resource.

it has lots of useful information repeated over and over with endless introductions
Wow! What an over rated book. Yes, it has lots of useful information repeated over and over with endless introductions, reintroduction, restatements, quotes, anecdotes and annotations. If the book were well edited it would be 25% of it's current size, with the same amount of information more clearly presented. I found it extremely painful to wade through to get the actual useful information which was then presented. The information provided is well worth having for anyone dealing sport related foot issues. But, don't expect to be able to apply all the techniques and remedies discussed because the instructions and diagrams are often inadequate while the quotes and anecdotes and endlessly repeated. If you are looking for an annotated list of athletic tape brands, foot bed manufacturers and foot cream formulators, the author has done a good job of quoting all the marketing hype from more resources than I ever imagined existed, with some, but very few insightful evaluations of the listed products.I would have found this book much more useful if the author would have chosen focus the text on providing his excellent direct knowledge and less on endless quotes and anecdotes from other trainers, athletes, product marketing writers etc.Yes, buy the book, but don't have high hopes of quickly finding solutions to any issues you may be specifically interested in, don't expect the solutions to be clearly presented, and don't expect a robust medical or scientific assessment of the efficacy of the treatments discussed.

Consistent and useful advice
I have Plantar Fasciitis (say "PLAN-ter fash-ee-EYE-tus") for a couple of years now and this book has some consistent and useful advice that is very practical. Although it is the most common form of foot pain it take very long to heal in some instances (6-18 months). This is why I bought the book. It advises you about healing by using proper arch support, never walking barefoot, taping, stretches, massage and occasionally icing and heat...Good stuff! I felt better after a couple weeks following the advice. This problem is only a chapter in the book. There are several foot issues (many that are ailments of athletes) and advice on healing. definitely worth the price and time to read.

Must read book for long distance endurance athletes!
Excellent book and must have for any long distance endurance athlete. It teaches about food care that you MUST know before attempting any long distance (5+) runs. It is nice to have for any ironman distance race. And again, it is must read if you have any feet issue while running.

Got me through the Jungle (ultra) Marathon
I have pushed my feet beyond where they should go many times. I thought I had the answers to keeping them in good shape during endurance events but John's book gave me some real hints and tips that gave me many days of blister free running in the Jungle Marathon in 2011.I'm still using his advice now.A great book
