Product description Treponema Pallidum (TP) is the causative agent of the venereal disease syphilis. The antibody response to the TP bacterium can be detected within 4 to 7 days after the chancre appears. What Is Syphilis? Treponema Pallidum (TP) is the causative agent of the venereal disease syphilis. TP is a spirochete bacterium with an outer envelope and a cytoplasmic membrane. Relatively little is known about the organism in comparison with other bacterial pathogens. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the number of cases of syphilis infection has markedly increased since 1985. Some key factors that have contributed to this rise include the crack cocaine epidemic and the high incidence of prostitution among drug users. One study reported that a large number of HIV-infected females exhibited reactive syphilis serological test results. Multiple clinical stages and long periods of latent, asymptomatic infection are characteristic of syphilis. Primary syphilis infection is defined by the presence of a chancre at the site of inoculation. The antibody response to the TP bacterium can be detected within 4 to 7 days after the chancre appears. The infection remains detectable until the patient receives adequate treatment. The One Step Syphilis Test utilizes a double antigen combination of a syphilis antigen coated particle and syphilis antigen to detect TP antibodies (IgG and IgM) qualitatively and selectively in Whole Blood /Serum / Plasma. Please read this review before purchasing
Having recently had an STD scare myself, I decided to order a routine laboratory STD kit and sent my blood samples and swabs away. However, after getting myself stressed during the waiting period for my lab results, I saw that this Syphilis Home Test was available and decided to purchase this product, as it offered both next day delivery and instant results which would give me the peace of mind I needed.Once received, I became IMMEDIATELY dubious of the product as the box presented several basic spelling mistakes ("retiable" instead of "reliable" / "wordlwide" instead of "worldwide") and both ends of the box were held together with extremely flimsy cellotape with no other seal present to protect the sterility of the contents inside. The contents of the box had no protective packaging whatsoever on the inside and were rattling around like crazy. The kit included the test itself, an alcohol wipe, a blood buffer solution and a lancet. There was also a VERY cheaply photocopied set of instructions containing many more spelling mistakes, making me question even more the accuracy of the results that would be given by this Home Test. After completing the Home Test, I received a negative result. However, the shoddy quality of both the packaging and the product itself made me very certain that the Home Test result could not be relied on by itself. I instead decided to wait the results of my proper lab tests, not willing to trust the results of this home kit. Fortunately, the lab results came back negative and eventually gave me the peace of mind I needed.I understand how gut-wrenching it is to have to wait for proper STD lab results to come back but, honestly, it is the only way to be 100% sure that you do not have an STD. Although this Home Test showed a negative result, I would not trust this product as it is clearly not produced by anybody with a basic understanding of medical supplies. I would be extremely interested to see whether or not this Home Test would show a positive result or a false-negative to someone clinically diagnosed with syphilis.BEST PRACTICE: use a laboratory test, not this Home Kit. Waiting for the results absolutely SUCKS, but it's the only way you can know for sure. And remember that syphilis will only present itself on ANY test after 12 weeks from the point of infection. You cannot have unsafe sex one week and then just expect syphilis to show up the week after.
