😘👌 Chef kiss
I may be biased because I'm a huge fan but this story was excellent and I hung on to it for a long time. The art is beautiful and the story is written in a way that feels like a real person's recollection and I'm about it. I recommend this and the rest of his work

Brilliant but different
I enjoyed this book immensely. The artwork and the story work together to tell the tale, like a tone poem or a good music video. Both story and images were dark and often spartan. This is a bleak world, with life taking an alien path, and a history of difficult ethical and moral decisions. It will make you think. If you are familiar with the other books by this author, that might throw you off at first. The Electric State, for example, is full of color and an obvious and jarring mixture of the familiar and unfamiliar. However, I find similarities with this work. The main and most important point for me is that the book tells a tale, but leaves a lot of room for your imagination. I have found myself spending more time thinking about the worlds in his books than in the actual reading. If you like that, then I recommend this book. I also found the style of this book (where most of the familiar world is dead) a logical extension of the decaying and fraying surroundings of The Electric State (where much of the familiar world is sick). The printing quality of my copy was top notch; no complaints there. This is not a long read, but I will keep it on my shelf and probably visit it again.

Well made
I've taken a liking to this authors works despite the somewhat depressing tone of his material. The quality of the book is great and the artwork presented is unique and compelling.

Actually has a story, but not as good as The Electric State
This one actually has a story, unlike Tales from the Loop or Things from the Flood. Art is still beautiful, but I didn't find the story quite as engrossing as The Electric State, although it was a decent read. It felt a lot faster than all the others. The biggest flaw would be that the driving force behind the story is something that the main characters know (but we don't) and so the climax felt emotionless. I liked it, but didn't connect with it.

A toxic tale with a shocking twist
Sometime in the not too distant future, mysterious black spheres appear across the earth. The origins are unknown, but soon the black globes begin unleashing toxic chemicals that make earth uninhabitable. It's decided to build underground facilities. But these aren't available for general populations. Drastic warfare with devastating drones are used as deterance. The main characters are Sigrid, Matt, and Charly. Charly is a troubled boy, so Sigrid and Matt take him to a week long "vacation" to the aboveground research station Granhammer. However, things begin to unravle quickly, and Charly's past catches up to him. The group does what they can to survive, but the drastically terraformed earth has other plans for them.

Gotta love Stalenhag
Also post-apocalyptic like The Electric state, but much much grimmer, both in theory (the apocalypse is caused by aliens terraforming Earth into a planet with an ammonia atmosphere, and alludes to social collapse and mass migration, along with atrocities committed on the migrants to make sure humanity has one underground safe city left called Kungshall) and in content--TES had some scary drones and grim imagry of dessicated corpses, but, while I won't spoil anything, there's some very explicit violence and gore at the end of this book. But once again, the story and art were good enough so this gets 5 stars.

Captivating, immersive, mysterious, dark but bearable.
I planned to read the first few pages. Next thing I knew, it was 3am and I wasn't going to stop there. Had to finish. Oh my. Storytelling perfection. And I am completely in love with the art style, and how it so effectively fed the unearthing plot, the secrets of the past. I cannot recommend enough.I have every one of Stalenhag's books and this is my very favourite, cherished book of his.Warning: It has a few bloody and sad scenes that may be shocking or traumatizing to some. Not for little ones to get a hold of...
