Working great so far w/good zap.
So far so good! It was charged when I got it which is great because sunshine is very rare these days. I wasn’t sure how strong it was going to be going by other reviews. I got this fence charger for my horses to cut there limit of grass and a cow got out and ran through it. I went to hook it back after dart and there was a tiny bit of dew already on the ground. It was tied to plastic handle to stop the currant at the fence I had it hooked too. That thing zapped the crap outta me in my rubber muck boots! I had to turn it off to hook it back. LOL. So yeah. I think it probably has a good zap to it. My ground rod is not even that long as we didn’t have anything to fit the grounding rod/ mounting post, which are one and the same. I didn’t realize that when I bought it. No big deal. We just a ways from town. But it’s been so wet that a 2’ one works for now.

Great unit, one year later with no issues
I've had this electric fence energized for nearly a year and it has work flawlessly the entire time. I am using this to protect a grove of fruit trees from my local neighborhood deer who will eat nearly every plant in my yard. This electric fence energizer has kept the deer out completely. I have 5 strands of wire, approximately 75' long each. The solar aspect is great and has kept me from having to run power out to the fence. Another great aspect is that the grounding rod acts as the support for the energizer and has an alligator clip from the positive and just clips on to the wire. I never have turned the unit off, just simply disconnect the alligator clip and address my trees. Highly recommended and will most likely buy another once I get another garden set up

Great so far!!
So far, works perfect, day&night. Had some trouble in the setting, but was related to fence setup, not the Energizer. So far, works perfect!

Working well. Had it a year
We live in a deer super highway, a clearing in the woods between the forest and the river. The deer like to gather and sleep here. The yard is all torn up. Trees regularly get stripped of their bark. But, the gardens, including delicious spring tulips, hostas, lilies, roses, and other tasty treats have not been eaten at all since using this energizer.Used the energizer and 3+ foot some step in stakes to fence off my flower gardens. Goal was to prevent deer and rabbits from ruining the garden. The step in stakes have at least five places to attach wire. i started off with hot wires on the top (1) and bottom levels (5). The deer leaned over it and then left. Found the wire stretched and some footprints inside the garden but nothing eaten.I added two ground wires at the 2 and 4 positions on the stakes. The grounds go back to the grounding stake. When an animal touches the hot and ground, they complete the circuit and get zapped. Since making this improvement, we haven't had a deer get near our gardens.Rabbits are still able to jump between the hot and ground and get into the garden. I haven't seen any appear to get shocked. But, often they just run around the outside. So, i suspect the fence has had some effect on them. To improve my system, I should get a longer grounding rod. Current one is thin and only three feet. The natural soil here is mostly sand and gravel. Will buy another energizer today. Have a bunch of young trees to plant. Need to keep the deer off untl they mature a bit.Definitely recommend the product for deer. Gave it 4 stars because I'd like to see the rabbits once and a while.... But, my inadequate setup may be to blame.

Not one, but two duds..back to back
First, when you go to install these, the size ground you can hammer in the ground is limited to something really narrow in circumference. The thing SHOULD easily mount to FENCE POSTS (T style) but no...you gota find something special and more flimsy...Otherwise was okay setting up, and worked rather well for almost exactly one year. It is as if they have a self destruct inside them or something, both of the ones I ordered just went capooit , and they did so in the same order I bought them. See, I bought one, liked it at first, bought another one like one month later. They failed in that order, and in about that same amount of time...so ME smells a rat....I dibbled in electronics my adult life, and sure enough inside it looks like a 555 timer, or some sort of T Chip...I suspect T for Timer, but I cannot say that for certain...it COULD BE just a crazy coincidence, but either way...read on...So, once open I see a battery, likely the problem right...so I order one, and sure enough the thing goes back to working...But DOESNT CHARGE ...so if there is a timer counting down, what it kills is the charge system, and this is true of BOTH of them that I bought...neither of them would recharge....VERY DISATISFIED and recommend you shop elsewhere...or suffer the same fate. IF you only need it for a camping trip to keep critters away or something like that...maybe you get it...but I won't be buying another one...NUF SED
