This is sa great wedge and solid performer on the Oak I have. Black, White, and Red Oak. Excellent design and a sharp point to start your split. Easier to use this than a splitting maul.

Nice quality well made split wedge. Splits wood with great results. Great value. Sharp and ready to use. Not so sharp that you would cut yourself. It’s made for wood, not shaving 😆

These work great. I found that they perform better than a traditional wedge because of the extra width.

I bought a Milwaukee 18V Hack Chainsaw which has just an 8" bar. I use the tool to create a slot to place the wedge which works perfectly with my old wedge. Even with the slot, I could not get the Estwing wedge to engage. It kept bounding out after every hit. The bottom width of the wedge is too wide. What the wedge is good for is as a second wedge on a larger 3' dia round, or after a wide split has started. So I give it 3 stars as a SECOND wedge to help open the split created by a different first wedge on larger rounds. Knowing Estwing, I'm sure the wedge is forged well.

Ik ben bezig met grote schijven (2m diameter) essenhout te verwerken (cf tennisracket-hout). Deze wig krijgt veel reclame maar is niet zo geschikt voor deze moeilijke taak met zeer flexibel hout. De wig gaat er moeilijk in en gaat er snel terug uit. In een reeds gemaakte scheur kan het wel nuttig zijn omdat de twee vleugels het hout goed uit elkaar duwen en ze zich niet snel vastsnijdt in het hout. Het is duidelijk dat voor het moeilijke werk de aluminium wiggen met scherpe rand en anti-terugslag randen superieur zijn. Voor zacht vers hout kan deze wig wel interessant zijn. Eén voordeel van het botte uiteinde is dat deze wig makkelijker in een bestaande scheur blijft en deze open splijt. De scherpe wiggen gaan soms in een bestaande scheur insnijden waar niet nodig. Uiteindelijk is deze wig toch een nuttige aanvulling op mijn scherpe aluminium wiggen. Maar voor moeilijk hout is dit niet de wig to go in de eerste plaats.

Forget the diamond shaped splitters, that get jammed in the log, get one of these, they make short work of thick logs, a sharp end and plenty of area to hit, using a 4lb lump hammer. No jamming or metal chipping, a chisel made to last for years, good and solid. Not cheap, but it saves hours in chopping time and cleaning up the mess, due to good clean splits. I'd definitely recommend!

Like any Estwing Product its very good quality. Made in the USA is a bonus. Heavy, with the little flutes on the sides allowing the split to open up really well. Gives additional width compared with a standard straight wedge. I cut timber in SEQueensland, fell, buck and split, only hardwood, the Gums, Ironbark, Bloodwood, Tallowwood. Notice people have trouble starting the wedge into the block. Use chisels guys. I open up with 9 inch Fuller cold chisels, keep a sharp edge will get into the smallest split, Open it up then go in with the wedges. I split at 15inch pieces up to 18inch diameter on a block using a 4lb hammer never have a problem. Split just about anything. ( don't use a blockspltter messed my back up years ago ) Only one i can't split is tallowwood. Put it in the ground and forget about it lasts forever. Fights all the way when trying to split it. Have to cross or star it, half bar with my chainsaw before getting a start with the chisel. Remember wedges are not made to start a split, they are made to open up the split so you don't need a real sharp edge on the wedge. Yeah, back to the Estwing wedge, its really good, well worth the money. I will be buying more.
