Pocket Filter

This water filter is amazing. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store. It's so stinking' solidly built as well. It's worth the extra $$$ for all of the above. Unfortunately, the first go around at buying a filtration system, I went with the Katadyn Vario Water Filter trying to save a few bucks. I was also attracted to the speed at which the Vario pumped out clean water (1-2 quarts per minute depending on settings). However, the Vario has a major design flaw. The hose outlet connector breaks too easily I discovered, and it breaks just trying to get the hose disconnected form the outlet. That should never happen. The Vario, while lighter in weight, it also bulkier and takes up a little more width in my pack... so while the Pocket is heavier, it's thinner and much more solidly built. I love this filter. And the cleaning is so much easier than the Vario. The longevity is also amazing. And if speed is what you need, I've already used the Pocket twice and I never felt like it was a super long pump. I carry a 3 liter camelbak, and it seemed to put in 1.5 liters with ease and without much effort. So if you are considering getting the Vario because of the price point, I would suggest you consider spending the extra $$$ for something that will last you a lot longer and be much easier to use. You get what you pay for.

Excellent product

I initially bought this product for my son and was so impressed by it that I bought one for myself as well! It pumps water through the filter very fast, made from high-quality materials, compact, and cleans the water as advertised. However, as stated in the description, it does not remove the solids in water like a Zero water pitcher does, so don’t expect the STD level to be zero after the water is cleaned.

This "pocket" filter pump provided safe drinking water for a crew of six to nine field project members for 46 days in a small town and a small city in Peru, where our source was municipal tap water that appeared clean but was unsafe to drink without boiling. Some members supplemented it with purchased bottled water at times, but that was for convenience, not necessity. Despite collecting a thick layer of silt from the tap water, after cleaning the filter cartridge midway through the season, the pump again worked almost as easily as when it was new, and the cartridge showed no detectable reduction in size. This cartridge should last for many years of field seasons like this one, and I will continue to use it with confidence. Although pumping water for the full crew was a bit of a chore, it was very doable. I was initially concerned that I would wish I had the larger and much more expensive "expedition" model, but this "pocket" model was very much sufficient for the task. It is a bit big and heavy to fit in any normal "pocket", but it is extremely well built. This is a serious piece of equipment that makes competing plastic water filters from other brands look like flimsy toys by comparison. I absolutely recommend the Katadyn Pocket filter for anyone needing a routine, dependable way to provide safe drinking water to a group of up to ten or so people, or more in a pinch, for an indefinitely long period.

Bought this for my backpacking trips and works as expected. On the heavy side, but does the job better than most filters and the construction of this filter is made to last, that makes it more dependable. Most are plastic builds and can snap and break.

Very well made

I've used this product to fill up water bottles and it worked as well as they said I've already spoken to others and recommended to others if they want a good water filter filtration system that this would be the best bang for the buck no problems at this time to speak of
