Q: How long are the spikes on these?

From the bottom of the black part of the shoe, 1". Dont forget to loctite the spikes before using, I did mine as soon as they were delivered. I weigh 350# and they held up great through my whole job.

Q: Would this item be appropriate for someone that has a size 14 shoe?

I think yes. I wear size 13 and they worked for me. Regarding preparation: I suggest that each spike be treated with a thread-locking compound prior to use. I also ground off the points to avoid cutting up the surface I was working on. And, Learn from me: be sure that the straps are secured so that they're not falling in the 'soup' and creating a cleanup problem later. You've been warned.
