Is the largest tool sturdy enough in turning drop cloth canvas for reuseable shopping bag handles?

how does this work?

Can the ends be open to turn or do they need to be sewed shut?

I need a tool that will turn thick fabric, want to make bow ties from jeans and other thick fabrics but it's hard to turn with the narrow opening. Thanks for any help. Not sure if the narrowest tool will work.
