A powerful ending
I have read all three books now and wasn’t convinced that he the third book was delivering the same experience of the first two until the epilogue. The epilogue brought all three books to a powerful conclusion. Well worth the read. Difficult ln part for an older Brit, as I didn’t get all the American music references or celebrities. I enjoyed the characterisation, the fast pace and continuity of the story.

Not the same old Joe
The third book in the YOU series was something I'd been looking forward to for a long time. The writing is still pure Kepnes: vibrant, witty and replete with literary and pop culture references. The quality of her sassy, spiky prose remains from the previous installments and yet. . .Joe is trying to be good. From the reader's point of view, perhaps too good. Rather than the excitement of New York or L.A, which provided the backdrop to Joe's previous escapades, he's now settled on a sleepy Island in Washington State. Yes, in familiar Goldberg style, he immediately falls for the girl that will become the object of his affections. And there are the usual underhand tactics to gather information on the object of his desire and those closest to her. But as Goldberg repeatedly reminds the reader, he's trying to change. The trouble is, this makes him a duller character to follow as he tries his best to find love and settle into quiet suburbia. There are occasional interesting moments, but they never seem to catch fire as they did in the previous books. Joe's trying to be a nice guy and good for him, but it makes him less interesting to read about than when he was stalking/murdering people. There is a lot of very good writing in the way Kepnes explores Joe's search for happiness and the nature of love and relationships with depth and aplomb. But the plot never quite catches fire and some of the twists lack impact. It's still an enjoyable read and Joe Goldberg remains an intoxicating character. I'll still look forward to the planned 4th installment, but the hope is that it has a tad more spark to it than this occasionally lacklustre outing.

A brilliant character written by a brilliant author
Joe Goldberg may just be my all-time favorite baddie, and Caroline Kepnes is at the top of my immediate-purchase list, because she is a brilliant, sick, talented-AF writer.Let me say that if you haven't read the first two books, do that first. Even if you've watched the show. I haven't watched the show yet, but Caroline Kepnes' voice-as-Joe is just so strong that you need to hear it in her words. In this third installment of Joe, we watch him destroy, self-destruct and fall madly and passionately in love in the Pacific Northwest. So much happens, and so many bombastic figures come and go, and it's just a wildly entertaining ride. You will find yourself rooting for this depraved, known serial killer, utterly taken in by Joe's psychotic mind.I am extremely proud of myself for taking three whole days to read this book. I wanted to savor it, but I also wanted to stay up and read it through in one sitting. A huge, enthusiastic 5/5 stars.

Psycho Joe - Good Joe
Sort of spoiler alert- Joe still manages to wreck lives without wrecking lives this time. A determination to be good leaves him in the position where he’s slightly out of control. The mayhem happens around him and it only needs the gentlest of prods to send it in an awry direction. The psychos surround Joe this time and he helps them on their way, until the one he didn’t expect and justify in his “Joe” way, totally blindsides him. There’s twists and turns and every happy lull is one of intense false security as you know that 1000 piece jigsaw of life is being build on the wobbliest table of all and it’s only a sentence away from tipping up and sending the pieces flying again. Some of the story was slightly predictable, like the carefully placed focus on certain elements like putting the tv in the whisper room, the cabin in the woods, the socks on the hardwood floor. You know those highlighted descriptions are going to lead to something and it made the read feel more like this was written for the next Netflix series. Like the writer was penning it with camera shots already in mind. Not necessarily a bad thing and I do hope series three coming in October is close to the book as it really is a good story. Is this the end of the tale though… is it ever. Is Joe searching for the unattainable and will he only get it by accidentally on purpose removing those that get in his way? Would a book four be too much? I’d like to know the end of Joe’s story but I worry it would be more of the same or a tragedy I couldn’t bare! Not often I write book reviews this long, so it’s obviously left me as a good book should, pondering on the what ifs and what nexts…. Thanks Joe!

Spectacular
I was looking forward to this for ages and Kepnes does it again spectacularly. Joe is just as sociopathic, manipulative and funny as always except this time he's trying to be good. But everyone he gets close to dies. Add to that some of those lucky enough to remain alive are narcissists too and you have yourself a ticking timebomb. I love the open ending too. But I would've liked a bit more of the bad boy persona from the Joe of old.

The book, despite not having been wrapped in any plastic or protector, arrived without scratches or bent corners. Also, it was supposed to arrive in more than a week... It took three days to arrive, excellent!

I need more Joe!
Dear Joe,As always, I enjoyed your telling over this chapter of your life. Man, life sure likes to try to drag you down. You tried so hard to be a good boy on this go around. Yet, everyone around you just kept trying to pull you to the dark side.If I'm, being honest Joe, MK really didn't deserve you. You were so patient with her; so good to her. Yet, she continued to test you over and over again. Her family and friends were a true obstacle in your love for her. And none of them saw it. No one would've blamed you if you would've succumbed to your old ways.Oh Joe, all of the wrongs you endured in this book. Melanda, Shortus, Love, Love's family, Ivan, Emmy, none of them truly appreciated you and your love for MK. If I'm being honest, Joe, MK didn't appreciate your love either.I was so shocked at the things these people did to you Joe. I didn't see any of it coming. I was completely entranced in your story Joe. I couldn't stop reading it. I was really rooting for you Joe. I was hoping you would get your happily ever after. No one can blame you for what you did in the end Joe. No one. It was the right thing to do. I wasn't sure at first, but after I really thought back on everything, it was the only thing you really could do.Now I sit here and wait for your next chapter Joe. I hope that you're able to pick up the pieces of your life. In the meantime, I will be patiently waiting to see what happens next.
