Beginner friendly Dax book.
It's my first Dax book. I thoroughly enjoyed Dax through this book. Ample amount of demonstrations and relevant exercises.

Simple and efficient
I am new to PBI and wanted to know more about DAX and this book was great for it.Although it is intended for Excel expert users, which I am not, I still found it very easy to follow and well explained. I bet it is even better for those out there who know Excel very well because there are many references and comparaison to it. Funny point about this book, which I kinda liked, is that it's written as if the author is speaking to you. You can almost hear him talking and it makes it friendlier and easier to understand compared to super formal writing. Especially if, like me, English is not your first language.I ordered the paper book because, being a visual learner, I like to highlight, comment and circle stuff. The font is big enough (10-12 pt?) and the book is 8.5 x 11 in.

Probably the best introductory DAX / Power BI book to learn from!
I spent about a year learning how to use Power BI by reading blog posts and watching YouTube videos. It wasn't until I read this book that it all finally clicked. In fact, I would say that if I had read this book on day one, it would have saved me about a year of fumbling around!Matt has a very down-to-earth teaching style. His lessons are very practical, and I love that he has plenty of exercises to test your knowledge right after he introduces a new topic (complete with answers at the end of the book). He says many times in the book that you need to complete the exercises to understand the material, and that just reading isn't enough. I believe him!I originally learnt from the second edition of the book, but I bought this third edition about a year later for a refresher. The page count has increased from 186 to 288.I thought the 2/e did a great job of teaching the material, but the extra 100 pages in the 3/e really helped flesh out the concepts. I found myself nodding along at the explanations, and was particularly impressed with his descriptions of how the DAX engine works and how best to think through the calculations.Matt really stuffs a lot of tips and best practices in this book. You can tell that he regularly teaches this material to students in the way that he has honed his explanations and analogies between editions. If you are using this book to self-study, I would say that on the first read through you are likely to internalize ~85% with some practice. Come back 3 months later, and you'll find the remaining ~15% finally makes sense and cements your knowledge. In summary, I think this is the best book I've read so far in introducing Power BI to a new user. It's also a fantastic book to re-read after you've been practicing your skills for a few months.Kudos, Matt!

Hervorragend!
