Like the concept, not impressed with the first gun (update)
(UPDATE: I have changed my 3 starts to 5)When it arrived I quickly opened it to inspect my new tool, excited and hoping for something to solder. Quickly my hopes were dashed, as it was missing the internal metal sleeve that holds the tip in place. I contacted support and hoped for getting a replacement part, but was only offered an entire replacement. Not a big deal I can wait a few more days. But then a few hours later, A need to solder something arose, disappointed that I had to use my old manual soldering iron, That’s when I realized that the end pieces were exactly the same, so with giddy delight, I stole the parts from my old soldering iron and screwed them in place on the new soldering gun. The solder ran through easily, everything was ready. I powered it on and waited for it to reach temperature, it worked perfectly, and the solder fed out smoothly. I applied The tip of the gun to my wire and waited for it to heat up to receive more solder. This is when things all went bad. At first, I noticed the spacing between the solder feed end and the tip started changing in relationship to one another, the gap widening and narrowing. I looked at the gun to see if something had come loose with the feeder tube, but everything was secure. So I tipped the gun down to return to my repair, and that’s when I noticed the tip of the soldering iron was glowing red. Clearly, something was too hot, well over 380 degrees, Fahrenheit needed to melt solder. as I lifted the gun this time the entire soldering end fell away from the plastic melted out of its fitting at the base of the Hot End. The entire tip and its metal components now lay on the floor in the shadow of the workbench I could still see the tip glowing bright red. Clearly, missing parts is the least of my problems. The power had been switched on less than 90 seconds and I had experienced a complete thermal runaway and system failure. The replacements should arrive by the end of the week and I will carefully inspect it and test its heat ranges. I’m hoping I just got a lemon and then the replacement will work as anticipated. I will update this review with the results as soon as it arrives.UPDATE review: the replacement arrived today, I inspected it carefully, and this time no missing internal parts, all looks like it's ready to test. I set up a heat probe on the tip and an infrared probe to monitor the temperature at the base of the hot end and other parts. I am pleased to say after having it powered on for over 10 min of testing the base (that melted last time) high temperature was only 110 F. the tip temperature rose quickly and was to soldering temperature within 25 seconds. It then fluctuated in the 455-490 degree range with only one spike of 517 F about a minute after power up. I let it cool and checked for any failures, I found none. after removing the temperature probe I tested soldering onto a circuit board and a second test of soldering two wires together. it has so far exceeded my expectations and I am looking forward to a real-world test soon.the only thing I can conclude is if you get a bad one it's really a bad one because the replacement has already seen more work time and soldering without a single problem or concern. inside the package, they both looked pristine. the only thing that was different right out of the package was the wobbly hot end from the missing internal sleeve. something you would only notice if you were changing the tips and could not be discerned from an external inspection.

Frees up a hand
I've been needing something like this for decades. As long as it does not die a sudden death like some have reported, it's worthy of 5 stars. I let it heat up, soldered some wires, and let it cool down 6 times. Still working. Gave it 4 stars because I haven't had it long enough to judge its longevity. Fingers crossed.
