These beans are great.for backpacking meal prep. Beans and rice is a go to backpacking meal, and we love to use freezer bag quick meals. This fits the bill perfectly.

this was a great buy. the black beans plump and soften very easily when i use them in a pot of fast-cooking grains, and the taste is spot-on to canned beans. this while being sooo much lighter in weight than carrying a bunch of cans while i travel. also, no waste using this dried bean, versus having to discard some from cans when i am cooking small portions. bonus: no dirty strainer to clean after draining canned black (or red) beans. if you are here considering this purchase, go for it.

Mixed this with instant rice and added smoked sausage (first night out) and Cajun spice for beans and rice. Yes, it's not Jambalaya but it was yummy. At home I broke the beans up with the bottom of a glass to make their cooking / soaking time closer to the instant rice.Second night out, same beans and rice, taco seasoning and canned chicken (you could use envelope chicken). Don't forget the tortillas.

Heat up with a little taco seasoning, dehydrated onions/peppers, freeze dried beef all on a tortilla and you have some easy/epic backpacking tacos/burritos!

I like it just need a larger size

I have a good supply of Mother Earth dehydrated products on hand for making soup and enhancing other vegetarian recipes. It is not always convenient to keep enough of the fresh veggies on hand and I find the dehydrated variety makes the dish taste better. Especially enjoy the celery and mushrooms for adding to other dishes.

The beans rehydrate very fast. I use them in Mexican type soups mainly, but have started to use them in dips mashed up slightly. Good flavor and a slight tang in the taste.

The black beans item actually taste good when reconstituted. Most of this companies products are sub par.
