Slik Compact II Compact Tripod

Needed a light backpackable tripod that i could carry around in the mountains. I've been using this tripod for under a week now and am very impressed with it. The price is unbeatable, seems to be made of good quality. I'm just using a small vortex razor hd 11-33x50 spotting scope on there and it works great. collapses very small (14ish") and is super light. If i could change one thing on it i would make the leg spread be adjustable and go a titch wider for that extra stability on the mountain. It doesn't extend to full standing position but i was more interested in a shorter lightweight tripod that i can sit on a ridge and glass. but you get what you pay for and i'm satisfied so far. It's light, compact and sturdy. But it is really strange that the head can only spin in only two directions instead of three.

I wanted a tripod small enough to use in confined spaces. But sturdy enough to hold an SLR with a decent lens and this did the job.

It'll get the job done but just not on a windy day. This mini tripod doesn't feel to sturdy. No locking mechanism to keep the legs from going back toward the center, so make sure that they are fully spread out when placing on the ground. Since it's also very lightweight I'd be concerned about a strong wind blowing this thing over. The height is right around 3 feet fully extended. It's just about eye level if your sitting down in a chair or at a dinner table. For the price it's a great deal. If the conditions are right then this may be the tripod for you. This won't last you a lifetime but it'll get the job done. Yes I only gave it 3 stars. I may bump it up after I use it in the field...we'll see how it holds up.**Update**I'm not using this on my Sony Nex which is much lighter in weight then my DSLR. I still have my same concerns about a moderate level wind blowing this tripod over. Also I've noticed that my SLIK Mini-Pro-V's legs open more then this. The legs being so close together doesn't give me the sense of security that this tripod is as sturdy as it should be. I'm going to stick with my original 3 star review. I would recommend this product with some reservations.

Light and compact for hiking/climbing with all the features of a full-size tripod.

Sweet pod for your money. Use it for backcountry hunting, and have run spotters and bino's off this without problem. Better get ya one if you want a lightweight tripod to hunt with.
