Council Tool Forcible Entry 6lb Flathead Fire Axe with 36 inch Hickory Handle

The media could not be loaded. The quality of this axe has a better fit and finish than some of my previous council tool axes. It came with a great hickory handle, with excellent grain orientation. I sanded off the protective wax used for shipping and applied linseed oil. It soaked right up and turned a nice dark colour. I use this primarily for splitting wood. It splits like a maul but has the balance of an axe. Over all it’s a good value compared to some of the higher priced European brands. The shipping was fairly fast and packaging was adequate. Since this is technically a fire axe it is a flush hang, and has a machined edge inside the eye to ensure the head stays secure. Also, it’s worth noting this is a higher quality steel than many modern axes, which adds to the value.

Big (6lbs!) made in USA axe for getting it done. No battery to run out, no extension cord needed, no oil or hydraulic fluid. The perfect low-tech tool to save a life in an emergency. Doors or zombies don't have a chance.

This is a great splitting axe. I do all my Firewood by hand and use this to split two cord last year. It held up well and split wood very efficiently.

Product preforms excellent as a splitting axe. Not meant for essay smaller straight grain rounds. You will end up splitting your block. Great for wild cherry and white oak. It still bites like an axe. But I have not got it stuck. So, a maul still has its place. This axe is great for the guy or gal that already has a good 3.5 jersey style and a traditional 8lbs maul. Fits well in between.The third party seller sent a nice generic note asking for feedback, the product was very well packaged, and shipping was timely.

The only thing is they put on varnish instead of oil, .. that you have to scrap off and oil it yourself.

Got this as a birthday present. This happened on my third swing. Split the log, and the handle. I was planning on trying it out a bit, and then oiling it up. Might want to oil it up first. I think I will like it once it's fixed but that shouldn't have happened.
