It works great. Paint it black:)
I spent close to $1000 on mulch last year and I was also concerned with chocking the soil with too much mulch so I decided to give this product a try. It performs as expected and it is absorbed quickly by my existing mulch. Some videos say two coats but mine seems to work just fine with one (although I did use a stronger concentration). I do not know the area it covers but the claim to cover a large square footage seems legit as I even had some left to spare.A few tips I got from the web: wear clothes that you don’t mind staining. Wear disposable gloves and glasses. Fill it up in an area that can get stained without a problem. Make sure it is warm and dry when you apply.I do not expect rain in the next couple of days so I will make an update it anything washes out.

Works and looks great.
Made my mulch look so much better. I used about 1.5 gallons on my bed. It was super easy to use, even with the crappy sprayer I had. It even rained about an hour after I put it down, and the color didn't fade at all. I unfortunately didn't take a before picture, but it basically made it look new. The mulch I have was almost 2 years old and super faded. The only thing that would make it better, would be a squeeze measure bottle. Awesome product and will do a follow up in a couple months to see how the color is doing.

Color
I tried Envirocolor pine straw treatment with very good color results. Thought I would try Colorback mulch in brown color to see how it compared to Envirocolor brown. Colorback is very brown, like dark chocolate. Dries somewhat lighter. The issue is that Envirocolor is much too dark for pine straw is your are looking for that new pine straw color. It doesn't say ok to use on pine straw on the label but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm sure it is ok for bark or wood mulch but not so for pine straw. Wish the company made a product for pine straw with more medium tones of red and brown. Also, I had to use a medium mesh paint strainer because the product contains tiny fragments that clog the pump sprayer. Worked great with no clogging. Manufacturer should filter out the fragments , not consumers.

I love this product
I purchased the stain for the pebbles around our fire pit. I choose black. It’s very black and shiny which I love. Pebbles usually look best when wet and now I have that look! Easy application, drys quickly in the sun.Plus the cats can’t dig and squat.

Cost Effective
Wow! This saved us alot of money and manual labor of not having to re-mulch, since we had already mulched early spring. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical, but as you can see in the pictures it looks like we just laid fresh mulch down. This was quick and easy to apply and coverage per 2 gallon mixture was about 200sqft

works okay, does't hold up too long though.
I'm not a fan of dyed mulch. That being said I had a customer with way too much mulch to add more without removing some and she didn't want to pay for that. So... we opted to try dying it in place. It's easy to apply with a pump sprayer, although I can never use that sprayer for anything else now since it is pretty clogged up with the dye. It looked great, just like new once I put it on, but it fades FAST. Maybe a month and it needed to be reapplied. Easy enough to do, and certainly cheaper than buying more mulch.

No More Back Breaking Work
We average 75-100 bags of mulch every other year and off years about 30 to cover areas animals dig up or wind blows. We used the liquid red concentrate for coverage on our existing mulch and it looks great...looks like we put down new mulch. My husband found he had to use his heavy duty sprayer to get the coverage needed, but it was so much less back breaking work loading, unloading and spreading mulch...and we are in our 70s. I'll try to remember to come back to this post in 3-6 months and update you on color...let you know if it stays. Good luck!

Yes it's cheaper than the EnviroColor product but it doesn't cover like it should.
For the last three years I have been using the EnviroColor brand mulch colorant. I started with their brown (2 summers) and eventually ended up with the black stuff. The EnviroColor product worked really great however it's definitely more expensive (twice the cost). Their coverage is 2600sf for about $28 vs this stuff is $56 for supposedly 12800sf.Here is the problem this stuff SUCKS. I'm sorry, there is no other way to state it. I have about twenty arborvitaes and several Australian pines on the property. If you have these you know they endlessly drop needles which are sharp pointy and turn a pretty brown/ orange color, (Being sarcastic about color). Well with the EnviroColor product no problem, just spray them and they totally blend into the mulch no need to spend hours raking them in or trying to get them out of the mulch bed. This product however made ZERO impact on those needles!Secondly sometimes you run into dead leaves. The EnviroColor once again, spray it and it's completely blended into the mulch, this stuff, NOTHING the product just runs right off the leaf's surface leaving it the same ugly brown.Lastly grass, sometimes you overlook a bit of grass growing up in the flowerbed. I've sprayed it and with this product it's still visible, whereas with the EnviroColor product it would just have turned jet black immediately. Now does it color mulch? yes, but even then it's not a dark black like fresh mulch, It took me twice as long to get decent coverage and even then it wasn't great, I even went back and double coated it as per directions and it still looked bad. (I never had to double coat with the other brand) The EnviroColor product gave me a very deep black color and I was able to spray it further away and at a faster rate. Now I will admit that color only lasts about a month (with the EnviroColor) but it does a nice job. I can't talk about durability of this product as I just received my gallon and used 20 ounces (4 gallons) and decided it wasn't worth teh effort to continue. Being a Prime member I just set up my return and will order the product that I know will work. For the record I followed the directions to the letter. My first batch 4oz of product to 1 gallon of water well shaken to ensure it's mixed and the disappointment was IMMEDIATE. OK, so next 2 batches @ 5oz of product to 1 gallon of water and same thing, poor coverage. Last batch 6 yes SIX oz to 1 gallon and still disappointing.I will go back and pay extra to use a product that covers any problem areas I may have, and also saves me time and effort. I might not have said that a few years ago but as I get older I appreciate when things just do what they are supposed to. The main difference between the two products seems pretty obvious while this is mostly a liquid the EnviroColor product is more like a thick tar substance.

Great product tricky to use
I garden for a living and I find that customers with natural brown mulch don't love how it fades over time. There isn't a brown dyed product available in bulk and natural mulches only have soil mixed in for coloring. I've been excited to try this product for a while. It looks great when applied and hasn't run in the rain. I would say it doesn't go as far as the package claims but that's fine.Once it's opened it gets thicker and thicker and the package says you have 5 days to use it. I bought a deck sprayer with a wider hose and used the largest fan nozzle based on other reviews here. It does tend to gum up the sprayer though. I would recommend having a bucket of soapy water on hand and the tools to disassemble your sprayer to keep cleaning it out handy. With all the unclogging it is a slow process. If you have to open the sprayer under pressure to unclog it it can be very messy. I would recommend having your whole area prepped and then just working start to finish to get it done before it thickens. It does clean up well with water immediately if you have a spill. In brown it does give the look you've always dreamed of So I think it's worth it. Personally, I would use this and recommend it for brown dye but would rather just top up red or black mulch with a thin layer to get a fresh look. You can see in the picture the stop line on last year's natural mulch. The homeowner was thrilled with the result. I will very likely use this product in the future.
