Buy your own straps
Straps tore while on the highway causes our kayak to go flying to the other side. The actual rack is nice but definitely buy your own straps. They are cheap, harder to secure, and break easily

Had to re-engineer the lower brackets
I'm giving these 4 stars even though I had some issues mounting them. They do appear sturdy. My issues came because I have a Heavy Duty Rhino Rack cross bar which is 1 7/8" high and 1 5/8" wide...so the bottom brackets provided didn't fit properly and the long 8 MM bolts that come in the package were not long enough. After looking at dozens of these J bars they are all pretty much seem the same, so I would have likely run into this issue with another brand as well So I got longer bolts (75MM) for the bottom brackets. I also didn't like the idea of the knobs, I'm quite sure they would come loose so I also got locking nylon nuts so my J bars are permanently mounted, but they are very secure and if I do need to remove the rack I can just easily remove the entire cross bar. The last issue I had was with the bottom brackets and their shape....they didn't seem to fit securely because of the width of my cross bar so I re-engineered their shape with a a 3 lb hammer...see pics attached...a much better fit. These bottom brackets are more suited to an oval or round cross bar. Get better straps as well.

Great buy
These are great racks for the price. We have ten foot kayaks that we loaded up and we had no issues whatsoever.Assembly is easy and I had no problem figuring it out from the diagrams they give you. A lot of people mentioned in the reviews that the plastic knobs were loosening with use but the plastic knobs are basically a jam nut. Use the regular nut and then jam that knob up against it as tight as you can get it. They don’t back off.I used the straps they provided and they do seem cheap but if you pull them tight they stay where you put them.We pulled the Jeep behind a motorhome for over 600 miles going 65 mph with cross-winds blowing 20-30 mph and the kayaks and racks stayed tight. This was a great buy.

but many tutorials on youtube that ensure easy assembly once you watch
No instructions, but many tutorials on youtube that ensure easy assembly once you watch. Rack went on the the car easily and is sturdy. We have taken the kayaks out and the rack was very sturdy. We purchased additional bow and stern ropes to attach to the front and back of the car. Everybody I talked to suggested this and I also think it is a good idea. Some said the straps that come with it were not good. I don't think they are the best, but they do the trick so far. One of them started to unravel at the end, but after I singed it with a lighter it's good again. Overall, it's a good universal rack system especially for the price. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because I don't love the look when the racks are empty - wish they folded down, but overall I am happy after 1 trial.

Great value
Perfect racks for our kayaks. The directions included were just a diagram with steps numbered, a bit confusing for me who is not super mechanically inclined but I supplemented by watching a youtube video and had no issues. I only need my husband's help at the final step of attaching them to my roof rack, also pretty easy. I was a little worried that the bolts were not long enough for my rack but with hubby's help tightening them we are perfect and they are super solid.Update 6/11/18So we have been using these racks for a year now and they are still great. We even left them on the car all winter and put our kayaks on for the first time last week and they are still solid and not rusted, etc. These racks were used about twice weekly all last summer so we are very satisfied. The straps that come with the racks are junk but you can buy some high quality cam straps easily and that should in now way deter you from buying this rack set.

Made well and easy to assemble.
Arrived as expected. Easy to assemble and install on our 2011 Kia Sorento. Added a small piece of non slip material between the metal and the cross bar to ensure it stays put and to protect the bar. Seems to be made well and of quality materials. Will see how it does after a few trips to the lake and mountains. May buy another set for the wife's van.

Exactly what we needed
We have a 2011 Hyundai Santa fe that we mounted these on. While there is a slight wobble to the rack (the factory cross bar is a little wider than the rack), we mount 2 kayaks on top of the Santa fe, and have taken off down highways and winding roads to reach rivers, and have not had a problem with them. There is a little shake that you can visibly see when trailing the Santa fe with the kayaks mounted, but as long as you strap them down solid, they kayaks aren't going anywhere.
