... our little 10 pound Yorkie/Lhasa Apso and am very happy with it
I bought the HappyDogz Security Pro Explore Retractable Dog leash for our little 10 pound Yorkie/Lhasa Apso and am very happy with it! Zoe can wander quite a distance and feels as if she has freedom, all the while I have her on leash. The handle has a nice secure feel to it and it is very easy to control the length of the leash with the button. I like that the handle is big enough for me to attach the crocheted doggy bag holder I made without interfering with the mechanism of the least.Although the handle is larger than my old retractable leash, it is very lightweight and comfortable to carry on our long walks. I also like the look of the leash although I would also like if it were to come in more feminine colors!I recommend this leash. It works well with my little dog but I feel sure it would work just as well with a larger dog.

Pros: The retracting and locking mechanisms work very smoothly ...
Pros: The retracting and locking mechanisms work very smoothly and reliably. The leash cable is flat and is extremely strong, and the clip at the end for connecting to the dog's collar is PLENTY strong to keep your dog securely attached to you when your dog sees that squirrel that you don't. Cons: The hole your hand goes through is a little on the small size for me. (I have large-ish hands, but not freakishly large. If you're much over six feet tall, you might find yourself gripping this in your knuckles rather than in a proper fist.) Additionally, the grip uses a plastic with a soft touch texture. It feels "premium" at first, but, after a couple of months of use, is starting to "peel" on my leash, creating a somewhat rough edge which can be irritating on extra long weekend walks. Still, this is a very solidly made product that I expect will last for several years of use.

Poor quality, very disappointing!
Huge disappointment. Unfortunately, a product of poor overall quality despite its manufacturers claims. The rubber handle began to peel after a few weeks of use; the seller was happy to replace and did. However, leash number two after a few weeks of use has a faulty retractable lock button which jams (not only annoying but obviously very unsafe). So since the company allowed me to keep the first leash I began to use it again, and after a few days of use the same problem with the lock on this one. Do not buy this product!!

Worked well 2 times, then jammed
There were so many good reviews for this leash, so I bought it thinking it would be a good-quality, long-lasting retractable leash. I liked that the leash was a tape, not a cord, so less danger of getting your finger amputated. However, after only 2 uses, it jammed. The cord neither retracts nor comes out. I tried to unscrew the screws and pry it open to fix the jam, but the 2 halves were glued shut. So now it's just unusable.UPDATE:Changed from 1 to 3 stars. Support contacted me and offered to send a new leash, so kudos for good customer service!BTW, I finally forced opened the housing (with a chisel) and discovered a section of the leash fell off the spool and was smushed against the side of the housing. It was easy enough to fix (though a little hard to put back together). I wish the design were better at preventing this, or else allow consumers to fix it easily without using a chisel. :)UPDATE 2:My original review said the locking mechanism felt flimsy and the leash slips a bit even after you press the button down to lock it, making it feel insecure. After looking at the insides, I can understand now why it does that. First off, I can verify that the leash actually locks pretty securely. The only reason it feels like it "slips" for a few inches is the way the locking mechanism works. When you push the button down, the button engages with one of the "teeth" on the spool that holds the leash. The teeth are spaced evenly apart so if you don't immediately catch on a tooth, it will lock onto the next one. Hence the feeling of a bit of slipping.

Works great for our Westies and great customer support - POOR RELIABILITY!
I purchased this as a replacement for an old leash that had finally given up. I read all the reviews here and on the internet and this appeared to be a good leash. We have 2 Westies that weigh less than 20 pounds and this works well for them. I did have some problems with the leash not retracting all the way when we took it off. It left about 2 feet or so out. I contacted the seller for information about how to make it work correctly. I got a super reply and they apologized and said it should not leave any of the leash out. They offered to send a new one and I accepted. It came quickly and seems to work well. The leash is made of good material and is easy to operate. The comments about the size of the handle are true but I will say I have a big hand and have no problem holding the leash. I usually have both Westies out at one time so holding 2 leashes is sometimes problematic. But I have not had a bit of problem with this one - either holding both in one hand or one in each hand. I can truthfully said this leash works well for us.UPDATE: The first leashe we got broke (gummed up in the handle - could not extend or retract) and the manufacturer replaced it quickly. The second one now has the same problem. It is "gummed" up in the handle again. It is worthless. We have had 2 other retractable leashes for years and they show no wear and not one problem. Ten year warranty? Why would I want to keep replacing these every year (2 broken in 1 year and 6 months). Recommend you choose another product if you want a reliable product.

Quality Flexilead
Seems very well made and I am really pleased with it. It is exactly as described, which of course is not always the case. Very sturdy- other flexi-leads I've tried are definitely not this quality. Highly recommend the web line over what I call fish line any day (didn't used to have that option). There will come a time when the fish line type will slice you, your dog or someone else! I was a little pessimistic that the web line would retract as smoothly- it works great and goes ALL the way in. It is a little large- I would have liked a smaller version if I had seen one- my dog is little- but it's still lightweight. Best part- a handle actually made for an adult size hand! I have little hands and it still seems like most flexis are made to be held w/3 fingers at best. Very comfortable grip. Highly recommend this product.
