Doesn't sharpen very well and is a lot smaller than it looks. Not recommended.

Nicely engineered for great results in sharpening most pocket knives and fixed blades as well. The angular setting guide on each end of the rod is a brilliant idea! This design feature lets the user set the angle of the cutting edge consistently before each sharpening stroke, consistently from side to side. This makes a HUGE difference in maintaining the integrity of the bevel on either side of the cutting edge, as well as reducing sharpening time. I found that there is also merit in simply resting the knife against the angle guide and pulling the cutting edge across the rod as opposed to sliding the blade along the length of the sharpening rod. The diamond abrasive grit side is aggressive enough to effectively "rough" sharpen the edge in a timely fashion and "hard" enough to sharpen high quality knife steel as well. The ceramic rod side of the sharpener is aggressive enough to work quickly, a fine enough grit to leave a keen edge, and the edge angle guide is adjusted to encourage a durable yet extremely sharp cutting edge! This is by far the most effective compact knife sharpening device I have ever purchased! The added utility of the hex bit storage capacity and magnetic socket are simply a caveat. Once you know the torx size for your knife's pivot, the other (2) hex bit pockets coul be used to carry a couple more universal hex bits, say straight and Phillips head for example. Anyhow, hope my experience with this product gives everyone more insight into the finer points of a well-designed little knife sharpener.

I must admit that I was very skeptical about this sharpener before trying it. The price point along with the method it used to sharpen had me curious as to the quality of the edge that it would produce. Since opening the package I have been able to put the sharpener through a gauntlet of tasks. The first task was to sharpen six Old Hickory paring knives which we use as steak knives. My initial reply was”Wow”. I was very impressed with the speed, ease and quality of the edge. Yes the knives are carbon steel and sharpen relatively easily, however the pivot pro really made quick work of the bunch. With no more than right passes on the carbide cutter and three on the ceramic the knives were extremely sharp. This is a huge plus being that they full so quickly cutting on dinner plates. The next task I completed was to sharpen all of our knives at the Firehouse. At first I was only going to do several and at the end I sharpened all of them mainly because it was so quick and easy. So , who is this sharpener for? I would say everyone. I am a knife collector and there are definitely some knives that I will only sharpen a certain way by a certain means. I have traditionally used the Work Sharp Ken Onion edition with the blade grinding attachment and that system works beyond great. The only drawback is it is normally a small event setting it up and working through the different grits. The pivot pro is down and dirty and gets it done with little fuss. The sharpener is perfect for the kitchen drawer, the shop, the truck or where ever you need a quick razor edge and a convex edge at that.
