as with all detectors the size and alloy of the target effects depth....a dime at 6 inches will give you a signal, but a dime at 24 inches will not, on the other hand a car hood will give you a ping at 36 inches. on a personal note I bought mine to find the gold streaks in the bottom of the rivers I gold pan in

I'm not sure but I wouldn't think so. You wouldn't be able to hear the detector signals.

The pinpointer is rated to 20 feet and the Sea Hunter is rated to 200 feet.
