I've recommended this book to all of my classmates in addition to my professors. The author does a great job explaining in the research fundamentals for social science students. It's got a great breakdown of the difference between qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method approaches to research and the ways they can compliment eachother in the research process.This book is an appropriate tool to use to help understand the research process for non-technical students. As a social science major that was forced to read an extremely difficult and technical text, most of the book was incomprehensible and irrelevant. I found that this book provided all the pertinant information in a way that worked better for my training.Also, if you get stuck the author helps provide outlines and templates to help learn the process better.It's a great book and very worth the investment.

My PhD supervisor recommended this book as a definite "one to read". Having said that, I've only had a bit of a quick look through it so far but it does look totally useful. It's much more 'accessible' than some of the other research methods books I've looked at and my supervisor really likes that it offers "templates" for your own writing - eg it actually says things like "The purpose of this research is to [insert your own words here]...". I guess if you use this sort of thing to inform your own writing, then it could be quite handy ;). I've not seen this in other research methods books, so it's a bit of an edge that it has.Fairly expensive book, but I suppose they all are nowadays lol. Definitely useful though.
