Clif Shot Energy Gel with Caffeine, Chocolate Cherry (Pack of 6)

I purchased this as a post hiking boost when having a long drive home after spending the day on the trail. The caffeine keeps me alert and the flavor is quite a treat and taking this after hiking reminds me to take a generous drink of water to rehydrate.

I'm an 45 year old male endurance runner currently training for the Boston Marathon. With a plan (and training to support it) to run under 3 hours, I need every edge I can get. Caffeine is a proven help in endurance running and this is a very digestible and carry friendly package. I'll take 2 before a long (18+ mile) training run and then have one on me for the last 4-5 miles. I find it really helps with keeping my pace strong. Yesterday I had one and went out for a typical 11 mile training loop. A run I would expect to average a 7:25 pace. I felt good and decided at Mile 2 to hit my marathon race pace of 6:45 and held that for 9 miles. There is no question in my mind that I would not have done that tempo run without the boost from the Clif Shot. Deducted one star because the stuff is kinda nasty in terms of flavor and consistency. But it's tolerable and works.
