easy to use
ideal for when cutting firewood .after my tree sawed up 14 -16 inches ,you can simply swing hook into end of logand lift unto trailer or in my case wood splitter .Quick twist of handle releases log.Saves a lot of bending and lifting especially in snow were footing is poor .Great product.

Update Dissappointed.Expensive Lesson
I was excited to finally get a pickaroon because I need one. However the excitement turned to disappointment... It is curved way too much and it is so dull I could not get it to stick in a round of wood.. I ground it down to take some of the curve out and put a point on it.. It works somewhat but it still is curved too much. I don't know maybe grind on it some more. Its bad to pay that much for it and then have to work on it and it isn't working well..... Wish I could have been happy with the purchase.12/16/21The more I work on this tool the more i despise it. This is so rediculous. Paid like 60 or 64 dollars for this thing and spend more time trying to get it to stick in a piece of wood. I wish I had NEVER ordered it.. Frustrating putting it mildly.....

A very solid Hookeroon
I purchased two of these after just recently being introduced to the concept. I also purchased a few (3) other similar hookeroon/pickeroon only because I needed some sooner vs waiting for them to arrive. This item is very solid and works really great here in Alaska on Birch and spruce logs. With it's longer handle you can gain a lot of momentum when using this one vs other shorter models. And this hookeroon releases from the logs a little easier from the ends of the logs. It however doesn't penetrate birch logs as easy as some of the other brands because it isn't as sharp as some other products. (This really isn't a bad thing though, just different from other models). The younger and taller guys like this product better than the shorter ones because of the handle length. Just like most things though, one particular may not make everyone happy. But I am very pleased with it. I marked it one star less for pain relief only because I am a short stocky person compared to some of my friends who are taller than I. This product is a "LIFE SAVER" though in saving your back. I just wish I knew about them 30 years ago. If you cut wood for a fire and you don't have one, you are really missing out. I now own 5 of them with varying needs based on your particular application.

Turns moving small logs into a one handed operation
Just picked it up from the post office and have already put it to work. I heat primarily with wood and had been using a sledge, a single bit axe, a prybar, and a lot of effort to maneuver logs. This eliminates most of that and the only extra tool I may need is a sledge to bonk the logs that are frozen to the ground or each other. The tool matches the description on the Council Tool website. The handle is unfinished and I will hit it with some BLO this spring. The tool is solidly hanged on the handle and locked in place with a steel circular wedge. It is plenty sharp and is nicely pointed so you can one handed swing and pull. No problems in any of the hardwood I've dealt with. I saw some concerns in reviews about the finish on the head and I have zero concerns there. It is a tool to be used with logs-nothing about that is gentle and griping about the finish is laughable.BL, the tool works, the price is right, and it was made in the USA. If I have any future gripes, I'll update.
