Great for teaching kids to draw
I love these books! They give simple instructions on how to draw using shapes that young kids know. No need to be able to read yet. My 5 year old is able to draw many of the figures. She had mastered coloring, so this was a nice next step to keep her interested in art.

Surprisingly simple, yet enjoyably effective
After having grown up myself, flipping thru the Ed Emberley books, I was really excited to introduce the series to my own children. The steps are straightforward and easy for small children to understand. Upon receiving the book, I chose a simple picture of a little girl with curly hair, from the first page, to draw for my daughter, so that she could understand the symbols and how they were added step by step to create the pictures. One example seemed to be all it took for my 5 year old to become hooked on this method of drawing! Riley and her "Faces" book have become practically inseparable, and I've noticed that all of her drawings now include the little details of realistic facial expressions. The grandparents love her homemade cards and the school teachers find her art skills "advanced" for a 5 year old. Its a great resource for non-artistic parents too, that want to add charming doodles to boring brown paper lunch bags, or thank you notes for friends. I can't wait to purchase more!

I LOVE THESE
I had these when I was a child and used them all the time. When I started teaching in the elementary school, I quickly sought out these books and bought them. My students absolutely love them! They are constantly wanting to get the books out to do art projects. I think that they are great tools to help kids learn shapes and to incorporate those shapes into drawings. I cannot recommend these highly enough!

Great drawing instruction for young kids
My five year old daughter loves this book. I guided her through a couple of the visual instructions and then she was off and running on her own. She even drew some of the characters in her class and the teacher liked them so much she posted them on the wall in the classroom. Now my daughter is teaching her grandmother how to draw some of the characters.

My son loves these books!
My son really enjoys using these books to draw. He tends to like structure, so the step by step instructions are right up his alley. It gives him something very specific to draw when he's out of ideas. I got them for him when he was 5 and he's still using them occasionally now (just turned 7). He uses the Faces book the most, as opposed to the animals and "make a world".

Great!
I purchased this for my Granddaughter who is 8 years old.I also purchased, "Make A World", and "Drawing Book Of Animals" for my other Grandchildren, 12 years old and 6 years old. They found them to be very fun and at the same time help their creativity and taught them some things that they found to be very exciting! All they needed was the book, a piece of paper, and a pencil. They were happy for at least an hour!!I highly recommend this book that will keep your child (or adult that always wanted to doodle!) occupied and at the same be so fun!!!

Book is very well-made
We bought the book with sewn binding. The book is very good quality. I gave it four stars instead of five because many of the faces are so similar that I don't know if the count of faces is truly accurate. But they are cute and the book itself will undoubtedly last.

Great Fun!
I bought this as I want to animate a children's story that I have written - I can't draw, but I had thought that drawing simple human faces and figures would be easy. I found that it was - however, with this book I have already created a series of drawing of my main characters. I have also bought some other books by the smae author to help me with my animation project.

Fantastic
My 8 yr old daughter loves to draw so I bought this book for her for Christmas. It's a great book and easy to follow and I will look into buying other Ed Emberley books in the future.

Kids love it!
Easy for them to copy (5 + 8 yrs) and means that home made birthday cards for family and friends are more interesting. Ed Emberley's other books are great too. Get em all!

Disappointing
Different to what I expected, the drawings are small for a youngster to follow.
